Somewhat weird...
I'm glad Bowness is still there, if all has been reported correctly. _________________

If that's true, I'm happy, too. I understand the defence and a big reason they got as far as they did the last two seasons as well as the development of BXA (two seasons ago) and Edler (this season) is because of Bowness.
Not so sure what the other two actually did - forwards? If so, then did AV throw them under the bus to save his own skin?
EDIT: FYI, Barry Smith was from the Crow era, while Mike Kelly was either anAV hire or DN promotion.
In the most positive way possible, this could be Gillis' attempt at cleaning out the last vestiges of the Brian Burke era of hires, while also mollifying, at least in some ways, the view that this team needs an enema. Perhaps Gillis has determined that, for the time being, AV is the best coach available for this team. _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

| Good this clears room for them to bring in a guy who can actually run a Power Play! Bowness and AV obviously have strategy and defense covered bring in a couple assistants who can power the offense! |

Vigneault signs an 1 year extension .. so no lame duck position for him. Some buffer room.
as for the two assistants , the fake Barry Smith and Mike "Who the F#@$ am I?" Kelly... who cares. |

Thanks for letting us know the importance level of your own press release, Mike.

He-- he knew he was signing with our guys, right? _________________

One year contract... Says: I don't have a better option right now, so I'm giving you twenty games to impress the hell outta me and the owner... If you don't kick ass by that time, buh-bye...
In the meantime, Gillis will be scouring the AHL for the Coach-of-the-Future....
Anyone else notice that the media has been pretty much spot-on with its speculation lately?
- Brunnstrom balks at signing with Van; media says it's b/c he isn't certain about DN's future with the club - within hours, DN is fired...
- Mike Gillis identified early on as a serious GM candidate, even when he has no exp as a GM - within days, he is named GMMG...
- AV gets grilled by GMMG; media spec's that he may not be the one to get fired, but perjhaps his assistants - Kelly and Smith get pink slips.
- AV brought to Vegas for more meetings with GMMG... media surmises that a contract ext and not a firing may be offered... After a couple of dozen single malts and as many lapdances by bleached-blondes named Amber and Tiffany and Morgan, he signs a contract extension...
There's a Deep Throat in the 'Nucks organization... And I think it's GMMG... What better way to manage the expectations of this club going forward than by controlling the Canuck media with strategically-placed truths during the offseason? By October, he'll have them eating out of his hands... _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

So if MG is unable to significantly improve the fwd group what will become of AV?
Uhg another season of line juggling & line matching & grinders on the PP,
let's not forget the dump & chase game WOO HOO
Seriously when you look at the ufa mkt & the draft & the crap on the farm
how is MG going to improve this fwd group?
It saddens me that this is the direction MG has decided to go- there is nothing bold about setting up a scapegoat for next seasons inevitable failures. _________________ Mark my words Nonis is a mediocre GM-
I called for his head 07/08
fired apr 14th/08
AV has escaped the axe for now |

for me the positive is that MG will indeed make moves to his actual roster. Yesterday at his presser he again promised change and a new look next season. With a new coach I would have to hear the 'lets bring back everybody again and try this new coach , maybe he can get them to win a playoff round' arguement... *barf* ...
only a month and a few days away from the Draft!... |
