Bee Gees.

I don't understand how people can talk up Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys as geniuses and not give at least some credit to the Bee Gees, who were basically doing the same thing but in a more British fashion. If anything I'd say the Bee Gees might have been better at harmonizing than the Beach Boys, and "Kokomo" represents a far lower nadir than the Saturday Night Fever stuff.

Brian Wilson was the better songwriter and producer, but the Bee Gees 60's stuff is underrated.

Americans are better at making music than the British.

And yet if a band is remotely British or British-sounding, immediately start up the hype machine to full power. Strange.

One of my all-time favourites. What do you think of the live version from The Name of the Band... with Adrian Belew on guitar?

My friends and I have a thing where we give each other gifts in the form of a walkman with a mixed tape in it, so "sending" it to you could be difficult, but I can get you some names...

Laughing

Yeah, no this is more of a Luddite(mild) art school/anti-art school thing. I dunno, people got tired of mixed cds. I found that people used to spend as much time fancying up a mix tape with decorations as they did recording it. This way you get a free walkman. I know, I know, it's like getting a free 8-track... Mix tapes are a lost art. I spent many nights on an old deck with headphones on trying to find the perfect way to mix the perfect tracklist to impress the chick I was making that tape for.

Is "IV" just the working title for the 874th installment of Street Fighter 2?

Not sure what to make of it yet. I like it, but I find myself starting to love it.

"Ms. Officer" is the track of my summer, dedicated to all the surprisingly hot lady cops in the city. Yes, officer, I was double parked. I was a bad boy. I need to be punished.

Of course I'm listening to all of this on Vinyl.

I'm really in full British mode right now. The first treat is an old, 1960's style, R & B / Blues album by the Animals. It's one of the true lost albums called Animalisms which came out in 1966 and got lost in the changes in the British Music scence brought on by Cream, the Beatles with evolver and the Rolling Stones and Aftermath The Animals' versions of Lucille and Smoketack Lightning on this album make it completely worth the listen but the rest of the album is great too. Great, underappreciated album.

The next is a real facination with Britpop / Madchester. Right now it's Oasis' 2005 album, Don't believe the Truth I've also been listening to a lot of the Stone Roses, the Charlatans UK, Blur and Suede.
