...and it's expectations regarding employment and being a productive member of the workforce.
God dammit. A high paying, do-nothing job is not your fucking birthright. You need to go out and prove yourself!!! Work hard and the rewards will follow.
I've seen students "work" here with a >25% absense record! And then they complain that they don't get paid enough. Student work terms are when you get a chance to make a name for yourself in an organization. I remember my first engineering summer job...I was SOOOO grateful for the opportunity and I worked my ass off to make sure I had a position at the company the following year if I wanted it. And it wasn't just me that had that attitude, it was most of my peers.
In just a few years the attitude has completely reversed. Now it's all about taking advantage of a company and playing the game of squeezing as much out as possible while giving back the minimum. Wait until the economic downturn hits Alberta...these useless twats won't know what hit them. Worse yet, their poor habits will be ingrained and they will expect handouts from people like me for their whole pathetic lives.

dude 100% agreed! im trying to find staff for my restaurants, i know its not high level, but these freaking people come, late to an interview, dressed like shit and expect a job. "uhh so when do i start" didn't even give them dude the job, its like, wtf!!
One guy actually shows up 30 minutes late to an interview (11:00am for 10:30) so i said to him, ohh give me one sec, i'll brb, and i left to do the company banking, and got back around 11:30 and said, ohh right, sorry interview was at 10:30, you were late, safe to say im not hiring you, and sent him home.
When i was younger, i was alway 10 minutes early, had notes on the company, dressed up, etc. fucking kids! |

Yeah man ,It's getting worse all the time,These useless little shits out there all expect 20+Dollars per hr.But very few are prepared to work for it,It's not like I mind paying that kind of dough out,It's just that I expect good people skills and strong work ethics in return,Shit , I had one employee a couple of years ago that actually smoked crack in a customers bathroom I figure I go through 5 employees for every good one that I end up keeping. My father once told me that it doesn't matter what you do in life,Just make sure you strive to be the best at what you do choose. This kind of attitude is what's missing in the kids of today |

I've seen a lot of the ME ME ME generation first hand with the kids my son goes to school with. Lil Skinnem - who turned 16 two weeks ago does not have friends who are of the ME ME ME attitude.
Josh got a part time job in November of last year. I am happy to say that not only does he always show up 20 minutes early for work - but he has never called in sick.
On top of the part time job, Josh writes for the school paper, plays rugby (his team made it to the Toronto city-wide playoffs), and he volunteers at the Christie Pitts community centre where he and a friend have hepled 6-10 year olds after school in drama classes. The play that he has helped direct and organize is this Sunday at the Gladstone Hotel.
I think one of the smartest things the Ontario government did was to make it mandatory to have 40 hours of volunteer service to graduate from high school. No volunteer time = no high school dilploma.
Josh and his group of friends have convinced me that not all kids of this generation are hopeless, lazy, useless, manipulating, self-centred little shits.
Actually, he reminds me a lot of my Dad. He's hard-working. He knows the value of money - and currently has more in his bank account than I do. He has a deep committment to volunteering. Last summer he volunteered at St. Vincent's kitchen 3 nights a week, and he jumped at the chance to work with kids when his drama teacher told him that the community centre needed help.
So fear not everyone, there is hope! It will just take a few more years for Josh and his friends to get through high school and university! |

Don't worry, the recession is coming as these people will learn the hard way what earning a living means...
What I notice most is the divide between the public and private sector. FUCK but to the public sector justice system employees have a sense of entitlement. The support staff, by and large, are just flat out lazy ("i'm on break" they say, as they sit at their desk 2 feet from where I am when all I want is a pre sentence report handed to me ). And the lawyers and judges are fucking oblivious that us defense counsel dont have a government cheque coming to us every two weeks, no matter what, and don't have the five million days of holidays, or ANY sick days, or ANY benefits.
Now, we do make significantly more than those twats (judges excepted... from the making more part, not the twat part)... but there's a reason for that - we're the people running our own shop, pounding the pavement for clients, eating what we kill, with no safety net or benefits whatsoever. What we have is what we have - there's no 80% of your best five years pension waiting for us at the end.
Point of my ramblings being, when I see public sector employees whine and moan about needing more of this, more of that, fuck it makes my blood boil. Government jobs have particular perks, but the system is supposed to operate on the basis that the private sector makes more for the reasons I've set out above. We can't have everyone working a government job. And don't get me started on union shops and their sense of entitlement...
wow... rant over... i'm going to bed...
