If the Leafs hire a coach before a GM, then they aren't committed to turning the circus around.

But they hired a GM already.

Once they went on about hitting a home run with the next GM they cornered themselves. Now they have no GM and no home runs on the near horizon and oh yeah no coaching staff.

idiots.

They'll tank a couple of seasons and rebuild around a stud like ron jeremy.

We face the path of time
And yet I fight

This battle all alone

Quote:
Wilson's relationship with Anaheim Ducks' general manager Brian Burke adds to the intrigue of the situation.

They pair played together for four years in college and were co-captains of the Providence Friars.

Burke also got Wilson his first coaching job with Milwaukee, then helped bring him to Vancouver as an assistant coach when Burke was the assistant GM.

At a dinner after Wilson coached his 1,000th game, he called Burke the most influential figure in his hockey career, a dinner that Burke attended.

To add a more personal touch, Burke is the Godfather of Wilson's daughter. The two remain extremely close.

Burke/Wilson tandem running the show? Better than they've had in a while, but it seems like the Leafs are hiring two massive egos with only one Cup between them.

If they don't turn things around quickly the media circus will reach cataclysmic proportions. Burke and Wilson won't be hired for PR reasons.

I can't wait for Burke to re-up with Anaheim at the end of all this. Laughing

Well, one way or another he won't allow himself and his ego to become a "lame duck GM" again (although given the team it would be pretty funny Laughing ). Either he signs a new deal this summer, or I bet he leaves sooner rather than later...

I think RW would be a good coach for the Leafs if they are committed to a real rebuilding. He was in place for the Sharks first rebuilding season and they definitely over-achieved the first couple years he was in SJ.

This must be a piss off for the Ducks ownership. It's not tampering... I guess, but it is a clear message and if they do go to Burke with an extension offer and he say no wonder why?

Would the Leafs do it any other way?

Brian Burke will be out of Anaheim in a few weeks. The move to hire Ron Wilson only reinforces that belief.

Whether or not these guys can start at zero and win a Cup remains to be seen.

That's being generous. I'd say that they're around -20.

Does kinda have that writing on the wall feel. I guess Anaheim can refuse to release him but who wants to force a GM to stay?

Or maybe he can stay around this season and make some quality trades with the Leafs. Very Happy Perry for Tucker maybe? Oilers 1st rounder for Woz? shall I go on?

It's been said that Burke had many out clauses written into his contract. Samueli's recent SEC investigation will surely be enough to allow Burke to walk.
