as director of player developement , he's replacing Smyl.. so Smyl is gone
Good riddance to Smyl , he was horrible off ice. They tried him everywhere and he sucked. Its just not his niche.. *sorry he's still here , he's a scout for college hockey
BUt Dave Gagner is a Canuck again! lol....
Gillis continues to blow up the management side of things. |

Smyl is not just a scout, they've made him DIRECTOR in the one area of amateur scouting which has actually been doing well enough!

The Vancouver Canucks made some front office moves on Thursday, naming Stan Smyl their new Director, Collegiate Scouting and adding Dave Gagner as their new Director, Player Development.
"The expansion of Stan's role and the addition of Dave to our staff are a significant step in our continued efforts to enhance the way we develop and evaluate young players," explained general manager Mike Gillis. |
Gillis, WTF you doing?
Of course, we all do remember Brian Burke swearing to us that Dave Gagner was the lynchpin of the Bure deal, so it's a good thing they got him back before someone else sunk their teeth into him! He's Canuck history! _________________

I agree with Jeff Patterson who thinks this is just the first step to boot Smyl out. Rather than fire him right out ...demote him to a important not so important job and let his contract run out.
yup , speaking of GMs making their splash with FLA... the Pavel Bure deal and the Dave Gagner throw in....oppsss sorry , as J21 just posted , Gagner was equally part of the deal as Jovocop. |

Let's be fair, what he said was "make no mistake, I insisted Dave Gagner be part of this deal"... golden when he claimed he was a throw-in shortly thereafter...
Can't believe I just defended Burke... |

| I heard unlike the Mellanby hiring this was a buddy hiring. Gillis was Gagner's agent and his sons' agent and said they've been friends for a long time. I have no problem with it , Gagner does have exp in player developement and NHL obviously , he runs a developement program for the OHL or something? its not like he's hiring Stiffler from American Pie to run the team's prospects lol |
