Just saw on Sportscentre that Scotty Bowman is going to become the Head of Hockey Operations in Chicago. Shocked

No link yet.

Well, that was quick:

Kind of thought it was bogus when I read it was from Hockeybuzz. Laughing

Oh Andy Strickland. The guy whose "inside sources" said that the Wings were going to revolt against Mike Babcock in December a season ago, led by none other than Nick Lidstrom no less. He's been trying to stir up BS Detroit rumours since before Eklund started up that site. The last one was his inside sources telling him that Lidstrom was actually going to be out for months when he got hurt this past season.

Maybe his son, being an assistant GM there?

Hakan was in Detroit before Bowman, so that ain't happening.

It's called negotiation. He did the same thing with Toronto, using his "happiness in Detroit" to try and get the deal he wanted. Bowman loves a challenge, and Detroit frankly wasn't a challenge for him, especially since Babcock has proven he's championship caliber. You may say that Toronto and Chicago aren't even remotely the same level of challenge, and in a sense you'd be right since Chicago has a talented young core in place already, but these guys have to try and beat Detroit. Toronto wouldn't have that level of juggernaut to take on.

And yes, having his son around made it a logical move personally as well as professionally.

Yeah, it's true. And it's not like he's going to come out and say that, he'll give the reply that I quoted above. I guess I just don't want to see him leave Mad

But this is certainly great for Chicago.

Man, the Blackhawks and Red Wings rivalry seems like it's going to be the best in the NHL in the next half-decade or so.

Yup, me too.

This has been such an amazingly fast and unexpected organizational turnaround for Chicago.

And more to the point, it'll be nice to see a rivalry based on actual HOCKEY for a change and not a cheap shot or a sucker punch...

Normally I just ignore Strickland and of course, Eklund, but don't look now. They're tooting the shit out of their own horn.

Quote:
The Detroit Free Press took it's shots:
"An unsourced report out of St. Louis had Bowman joining his son Stan in Chicago as director of player personnel. Stan is the team's assistant general manager for hockey operations. 'I don't know anything about that,' Scotty Bowman said this evening. 'As long as I'm healthy and there's no change in ownership in Detroit, there'll be no change. I'm perfectly satisfied.'" - Detroit Free Press

Hey thanks for mentioning the site and Andy by name Free Press..(oh right, you didn't)

It is funny to me. This happens all the time.

Seriously, what are you folks afraid of?

I just called you "The Detroit Free Press" didn't I. I post links to your stories and other stories all the time. I don't call you "A newspaper from a midwestern town."

Anyway, I just hope that some of the mainstream papers and websites today give credit where credit is due to Andy...The fact that Hockeybuzz has broken numerous stories this summer may be ignored by those outlets that see us as competition, but based on some recent behind-the-scenes stuff at Hockeybuzz...the ones that matter....REALLY get it.

A broken clock is still right twice a day, which is far more accurate than either Eklund or Strickland. It certainly doesn't mean that the clock is an inside source for what time it is Rolling Eyes

While your point is true about their accuracy, I'd also point out that people still cite Bruce Garrioch and Al Strachan by name and report on what they said. The fact that Strickland's report is described as "unsourced" is funny, since reporters are not supposed to divulge their sources unless the source volunteers to give that information.

A lot of stories have been broken by bloggers and the MSM has taken credit for it. There is a legitimate reason as to why they feel slighted.

Since it's a new realm of journalism/reporting/whatever you want to call it, the fuckups of a few are going to reflect upon the majority. As you say, it may not be fair, but it's inevitable considering that Eklund is one of the biggest out there. And of course, those who choose to hitch their wagon to Eklund's shit show shouldn't be naive enough not to expect flak.
