As per TSN, One year 7.4 mil. So I guess that's the one-year big ticket that I was talking about.

Kenny Fucking Holland. Nice work buddy.

Zetterberg makes only $2.6m and Franzen less than $1m next year. It's after this coming season that things get icy as those 2 contracts come due.

Tons of cap space this year, but they need it for next season for Franzen and Zetterberg. This is more than I thought they could afford, but apparently not.

Hossa is risking his long term future for one great shot at the Cup. It's ballsy/admirable, but it could backfire should he get seriously hurt in this next season.

I'd tell Hossa to just take the damn money (he might have left 60 MILLION on the table elsewhere) but this means Sundin won't be getting an offer from the Wings.

I'd guess that Detroit had an offer for both, maybe even the same offer, on the table.

Something stinks here.........but maybe this is just an example of Detroit's genius in building a team.

Bruins = herd of moderately talented muckers over cap space.

Wings = Word Class Talent with money to burn................

Mad

More than that....

its called drafting elite talent in the later rounds and giving them fair money. find enough early gems and you can splurge on the odd extravagance. i dont like hossa taking less to play for a contender - a bit cyclical - but i can't argue with detroit's approach...

Except for the "Summer of the Superstars" Ken Holland has proven to be a near genius at building a team. I admit that I am totally ignorant when it comes to drafting. I sit back and think, "Ok..a Zetterberg person..ok a Datsyuk person..." And then WHAM.. and I think "Where the hell did they FIND these guys?.."

If Holland thinks we need Hossa, then I guess we need Hossa. We'll see.

Because he knows he can probably get another $60M offer next summer playing for CBJ or VAN or FLA for the next 8 years but he'll only have this one shot to play for a real contender before he's done...

Until Brian Campbell gives Hossa a massive concussion in an Umberger-esque open ice hit.
