Late Sundin compensation?
Mikhail Grabovski to the Leafs for prospect D Greg Paterynn and Toronto's 2010 2nd round pick.
Grabovski has some good skill, but as the 3rd small/skilled centre on Montreal's depth chart, he was incredibly redundant. Sounds like good return for a guy that was only going to be a spare on next years team, Sundin or not.
The Leafs need speed and skill down the middle. Grabovski needs a rebuilding team to give him the patience and opportunity to become a NHLer.
Also, him ditching the team in Phoenix this past year shortly after his call-up because he was scratched didn't put him in Gainey's good books. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. I don't understand.
A 2nd rounder & tough-guy defensive prospect for an unproven / smallish center? Maybe it will work out, but Cliff seems to be going back to his old reasoning of trading picks (with the idea he can get the pick back via trade). However, let's not have TOO many draft picks!
Whatever - it's a tough time to be a Leaf fan.
I get the idea that a "Grabovski" could have been had via the UFA route (like a Keith Aucoin who has since been signed) and TOR could have kept there 2nd round pick in 2010 (by the looks of things, probably going to be a high-up 2nd round pick too).
Fuckers ....
FUCK EVERYTHING!

Grabovski is a 24 year old with upside. It's a bit of a gamble, but it's the right kind of gamble for a rebuilding team. He's not a career minor leaguer like Aucoin... he's a potential top 6 player who has accomplished all he can in the minors and now needs the NHL time, which the Leafs can provide (not the Habs). Grabovski tore apart the AHL just before his callup, and made the Habs out of training camp last year. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. Excellent. Reminds me of Rivet trade. A very useful part that just didn't fit into our plans for a project and a useful pick. _________________ The fans represent the soul of the organization.
