I still think it's BS. I thought the whole Boyle signing was orchestrated by the new owners from behind the scenes anyways. Plus, he has a NMC. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Well with the ludicrous contract thrown Blake's way I think this is a dead rumour. _________________ -UP THE IRONS! |

Off to San Jose, with Brad Lukowich, for Matt Carle, a 1st and a 4th round pick, plus a prospect by the looks of things. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. Apparently the prospect is D Ty Wishart, San Jose's 2006 first rounder.
This is nutty. Tampa now has an absolutely horrid D, and San Jose has an old D with a ton of cash being spent on it. Something tells me one of McLaren or Rivet is now available.
And cue the Khabibulin back to Tampa rumours.
San Jose is now $2m shy of the cap. They've never had that kind of budget before, even in their bloated Lombardi/Sutter days. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. Nice pick-up for the Sharks and IMO really good return for TBay. Wishart is supposed to be great and Carle is worth a shot.
Hopefully his wrist is fully healed?!? I know wrist injuries can have long term effects but they must have checked him out. _________________

Mirtle thinks it was Len Barrie who was degrading Boyle in negotiations. This was one of the most bizarre sequence of events I've seen as per a trade. Heck, I'd say even more bizarre than the Roy deal.
http://mirtle.blogspot.com/2008/07/boyle-vs-barrie.html
Anyways, both Barrie and Boyle were on the 2000-2001 Florida Panthers, a team that was awful and apparently very dysfunctional. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. And for a guy like Len Barrie who had to scratch and claw his way to play 180 games in the show, it's not inconceivable that he wouldn't be a fan of a younger guy with a lot more natural talent that he thinks isn't working as hard to get where he is, whether it's actually accurate or not. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

Some of these moves amaze me......Boyle gets paid 6.6 mil a year for 5 Years.....I just don't understand why signing Brian Campbell at 7.1 would have been any different? Marleau is coming due in 2 years.....
So their total cap hit is 51 Million.....I suppose I just don't get it. You'll never get me to understand the Blake signing either.
So is this the new NHL Norm? Lock up 5 players long term and try and plug the holes with role players around them? _________________ -UP THE IRONS! |

Not sure but I think they tried hard to get Campbell but couldn't get it done, might not just have been $$$.
I think the Blake signing sucks. Not what they needed. _________________

With teams with a couple of huge stars making massive amounts of cash, that's likely how it'll be. See: Pittsburgh.
That can be limited to an extent when a team drafts and develops their own talent effectively. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

My only thought is they got the possibly really bad Carle contract off the books in this deal, so it's like adding $3.1m in salary, sacrificing a little depth, and getting Boyle instead of Campbell.
Yep, I think a lot of teams will try and lock up about 5 guys and look for ways to fill out the roster around them. It won't be the only blueprint out there, but it seems to be a common one. Some teams will lock up young guys, some will lock up guys when they hit UFA age. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say?
