Clint Barmes!? Yipes that is desperation. I bet O'Dowd can sucker someone into giving something decent for him just because he's a decent fielding shortstop and he had that one and only hot streak with the bat his rookie season.

Why hasn't Sabean been fired yet? He's signing players so old he's setting MLB records for it and who was the last "player of the future" he put out there? Lance friggin' Niekro!? What a joke. Bochy seriously erred taking that managerial job, he should've stayed in SD.

Sabean will get the chance to start from scratch with Bonds gone.

Sabean, or someone else in the Giants organization, has a great eye for pitching talent.

Cain and Lincecum will be the Sabathia/Carmona or Bonderman/Verlander of 2008 or 2009. I think Zito is better than bitter fans give him credit for, and can win 15 with a sub 4.00 era on a decent Giants team. Correia will be a great 5th starter, and Lowry needs to fix his control problems but is a bulldog out there.

Brian Wilson, Brad Hennessey and Randy Messenger are good, hard throwing youngsters (well, Brad is more of a slider guy). Sanchez should be traded for a young hitter.

I like Schierholtz a lot, reminds me of me (makes good contact, doesn't walk or strikeout much).

I think the Giants will make the playoffs in 2009, if some of the young hitters turn out and they aggressively go after forgotten hitters on other teams.

I don't hate the idea of bringing in A-Rod compared to handing a 4 year deal to Lowell or someone who won't be at the top of their game when the Giants are ready to contend.

Torre went to L.A.

Quote:
``Having grown up in Brooklyn, I have great understanding of the history of the Dodger organization and I am committed to bringing a world championship back to Los Angeles,'' Torre said in a statement. ``I consider it an honor to be a part of this organization, which is one of the most storied franchises in all of sports.''

Anyone else read that as "steroid"?

I don't get the big deal over torre. To me, he's essentially a Cito Gaston - a laidback manager that can manage a bloated payroll of veterans, instills loyalty, can juggle egos, but relies heavily on certain hitters and pitchers, and cannot handle a rebuilding phase.

Well he failed in multiple places before finally landing in the right place, right time in NY. It'll be interesting to watch, I'm actually rooting for the guy even though he's now a division rival. I think it's a move by the new ownership/management to get a name in that dugout that's severely lacking in them.

He takes over a team with (reportedly) one of the deepest and most talented farm systems in the majors, a team with solid pitching and a good bullpen but weak bats. He had the exact opposite of that in NY so who knows...?

Too bad Don Zimmer signed an extension in TB. Torre was at his best with the old man at his side. I've been a fan of his since his days with the Rox and Don Baylor...

Barry bonds says he'll boycott the Hall of Fame if MLB puts an * on his record.

Boycott away, fuckhead.

Asterisk would force boycott of Hall of Fame

For the record, that isn't MLB putting an asterisk on his record. It would be the owner of the ball writing an asterisk on the record-breaking ball.

Laughing He said he didn't care before if the "idiot" wrote on the ball Laughing

So, will MLB put the baseball there, make everyone's decision easy(and Bud Selig gets off easy) and he won't be inducted into the Hall of Fame? Or will they not take the ball so Barry can get in?

Poor Barry Crying or Very sad

Poor Barry my ass.

Any way I guess I only scanned the article. I just hate Barry Bonds. I used to think he got a bad rep with the press. But I've lost all respect for him.

The laughing icons at Barry didn't tip you off that I was being completely sarcastic when I said "Poor Barry"? Wink

You've been sucked in by all the negative Barry press you'll tar and feather him with no justifiable reason.

Marc Ecko, the real jerkoff in this ordeal, has sullied a priceless piece of MLB history by putting an asterisk on it for fun.

Barry beat that record, and if the Hall of Fame plans on displaying the ball with Ecko's asterisk on it, then Barry shouldn't show up. It's incredibly disrespectful to a guy who may be a jerk but was inarguably one of the best hitters of all-time.

Lest we forget, the man who gave up Barry's 755 homer was actually suspended for steroid use, yet all anyone harps about is Barry's supposed steroid use. Countless stories have been written on him based on innuendo and heresay, with very little based in actual fact. If I were him, I wouldn't trust anyone, considering all the bullshit and lies that get spread about me.

In the age of steroids, where Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa get a free pass, Barry was the one player who was consistently amazing for twenty plus years. Back in his Pittsburgh days, when he was still a string bean, he won four MVP's and was the greatest ballplayer since Willie Mays. McGwire and Sosa were a couple of mashers who magically became superstars in the mid-nineties.

Bonds doesn't deserve to have his record tarnished by some fashion designer looking for free publicity, and he definitely doesn't deserve to be treated derisively by the Hall of Fame committee. The HOF is about respecting the accomplishments of our greatest athletes, and if they won't do that, then fuck 'em.

I'm not a moron. Barry's been getting bad press for years. I used to really like him. But as I watch him get bigger and bigger. As I listen to him lie and continue to get away with it I start to think, "This guy represents everything that's wrong with professional sports."

As for the ball. If someone wrote on Babe Ruth's ball I'd be pissed. But this one. Oh, well.

Bonds tarnished the record himself, long ago.

Edit - Just so you know. McGwire and Sosa are assholes too.

Barry's a jerk, and maybe he gets more flack in the press than he deserves (I actually can't believe to be quite honest the fact that Jeff Kent was so adored by the press but is at least as big a jerk if not more than Barry ever was) but like Pete Rose, you won't see me holding up a picket sign demanding he be put in the HOF. Barry did this to himself, no one else. I wish he'd just go away already, no one wants him to stay around anymore...

I certainly didn't mean to imply that you were, so I apologize if that's how it sounded. I realize Barry is a jerk, but he's been demonized more than any of the other players from the 'roid era of baseball and I find it excessive.

And now, I'm off to Buffalo to kill you. No, I'm off to Buffalo for other reasons, but if you see someone wearing sunglasses at night and yelling constantly, be a dear and say hello.

In the end I guess all Selig can do is acknowledge the record and move on. He turned a blind eye to the rampant steroid usage because he felt his sport was in a crisis following the strike. Well, you make a deal with the Devil...

That being said, we still have no definitive proof that he or Sosa or McGwire actually did 'roids, even though it's as plain as the noses on everyone's faces that they did. Until that hard evidence comes in, we can't really do anything except despise the guy.

Is our resident Raoul Duke ever going to undertake a journey to Toronto?
