The loonie's trading at $1.06 USD right now. Who here doesn't think the cap will go past $55m next year?

Good deal in that sense. It's long term where there might be a problem, especially if growth in the US remains stagnant.

If you can spend to the cap, you can do this with a lot better results. One of Feaster's problems is that he got topped out at $43m or so.

I haven't looked at the full extent of the Rags' cap structure, but didn't their two ENORMOUSLY middle-tier acquisitions in the summer ensure that they'd have a tough go at doing the same in summer '08?

Well I'm being a little facetious, and a little fatalistic as well. Like their two middle-tier acquisitions as you put it, I think Redden is more than a bit overrated. It'd be like that dumbass Dolan to sacrifice all the depth the Rags have acquired (and try to lowball Lundqvist again) by getting Redden at an inflated rate...where there's a will there's a way. They'd probably have to waive half the roster to do it.

I don't think they have a significant d-man signed through next year, and Shanahan and Avery are off the books up front. And, the cap will go up at least another $5m thanks to inflated Canadian revenues again.

nhlnumbers says that they only have about 19 mil or so tied up in salary. And only Marc Staal and someone else signed on the back end.
