They will be meeting later this month, but it looks like this will be the last season under the current format.

Thank God the current scheduling format looks to be done. I personally like the Red Wings proposal to go to 84 games and lose two exhibition games. The games are already being played anyway. You might as well make them count. I also like the home and home aspect with every team in the league visiting everybody else at least once.

Here's an article from a local columnist who just points out how dumb it is for a league to be touting big stars like Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin and then keeping them away from half of the league...

Who's bright idea was it to have 6 days between Red Wing games? I'm on vacation and was looking forward to seeing several RW games while at home.

Thanks a lot Buttman!

I agree with RW and Lilith. With so many games being played, it doesn't make sense to have huge breaks early, if at all. And the Red Wings proposal is exactly what they should do.

Hmm... those two thoughts seem contradictory... I'm sure Bosc will be along soon enough... Laughing

Nahh Laughing

The Red Wings' proposal seems like the most simple solution. The only thing is that 84 games is a long season, and eliminating a couple of pre-season games for a couple of regular season games isn't an even trade-off in terms of health.

They need to have each team visiting each building. That's part of marketing the star players. For the casual observer, some of them will be asking "who the hell is that??" for certain players in commercials considering they only see them once every 3 years.

What's the point of the 84 game schedule when the league is going to 32 teams just a couple years after that? It doesn't break out evenly anymore.

I just don't see the point in switching to that symmetry if it's for such a short term situation.

But Bettman says that they have no plans for expansion! Razz

You may have noticed, they don't say that anymore. Wink
