Well, the time is certainly right to rape Atlanta. Regrettably, Waddell is like Luvah whenever the navy is in town - used and abused from plenty of dealing. There's not a lot left to pilfer.

Hossa? THe problem is, as bad as Atlanta is, he's still a world class talent. Who does Vancouver have that Atlanta wants? Nonis isn't trading the twins or Luongo. Ohlund is the only guy that springs to mind, but again, a desperate Eastern GM is exactly the guy you want to be dealing with if you're a Western team with guys underperforming re their reputations and salaries...

Canucks could use a good ol backscratcher about now.

Matvichuk in on waivers and Eklund post "Canucks interested?". I dont see Nonis biting on Matvichuk at this time ... 1.4M for a slow footed D. I use to covet this guy but apparently he's too slow. As always , on a recall? perhaps.. he would be down for 700K . I dont see it...the D is slow enough and Nonis has already had a big emphasis on speed.

Funny quote on HFBoards: "Matvichuk's so slow, it'll take him twice as long to clear waivers." Laughing

Latest Eklund blurb ...

Quote:
Hossa Westa
We can all agree that Atlanta would love to re-sign Hossa. He is a top player in this league, but this year has been a tough one for him. If forced to predict how this all turns out, I would say that Hossa is 60% signing back with the Thrashers.

All that being said, I am told that three teams are leading the way towards possibly acquiring the star. Those three teams would be the Canucks (e3), the Oilers (e2), and the Avalanche (e2). We will stay on this one of course.

--------------------------------------------------------

Smoke is starting to accumilate but no fire yet.. need to hear more of this rumour to start the "where there's smoke there's fire" theory. This rumour has legitimacy , not caz of Eklund caz Pierre Macguire felt it was on the radar , and he usually never gives out names.

I dunno. Yes Hossa is a player with tons of talent but if I'm a GM trading him to the Canucks I'm asking for Bourdon, Schneider, Kesler and a first rounder. I'm not saying that's what I'd get in return but you get the idea what Nonis will be up against. The Canucks need offence but can Hossa supply all of it? Nonis so far has made a conciencious decision to build up the farm team with youth. The Manitoba Moose have only 5 players over the age of 25 and one of those, Balej is 26. Nonis also has to deal with Naslund, Cooke, Morrison and Linden becoming UFA at the end of the season with probably only Morrison returning. If you start shipping out youth for a soon to be 29 year old who is UFA at season's end, other than the Sedins who are going to be your forwards? Even if you get Hossa to sign an extension, if the kids on the farm aren't ready, who fills out the other 9 forward spots? Brad Isbuster clones?

It seems out of Nonis' character to be looking at a Hossa calibre deal so early. I wonder who they were scouting out , Atlanta clearly had somebody(ies) on the block and players that interested Vancouver.

I would be shocked if he really was. Nonis' style would be a #4 defenseman, keeping with the "Nonis seems to get a lot of defensemen" approach.

another sign you can tell its not Hossa... do we really need to send 3 scouts to scout Hossa? what the hell are you people looking at? can I have that scouting job? Dave , the guy can play in the NHL. Its a yes for me. Steve ? ...( like a reality show 3 person judging system)

Exelby, Havelid, Klee, Dupuis, Holik, Slater, White... I would think those would be the possibilities... Morrison for White could make some sense...

So... this schedule sucks, doesn't it? What's up with all the 4/5 day layoffs (which we know serve the team so well).

Are they going to have like 10 straight gamedays in March or something? Laughing Does the season go 'till August this year?

You know things are slow when our single-A baseball team generates more discussion than the Canucks.

Yeah what is the go with the schedule, usually we have fewer of these breaks in an entire season then we've already had, wouldn't be so bad if it seemed like we were actually making progress with them, like the next game our PP looked awesome or something

There must have been quite a bit of bitchin by the Nux brass in the offseason,Near as I can tell our longest roadtrip this season is only 4 games which is a far cry from the 6 or 7 game monster trips that they have had to endure the past few seasons.

Laughing Only your fellow Pacific Northwesterners will understand that. And our Washington State contingent is as weak as it's ever been.

It's possible, but we're referring to this staple of the Northwest:
