Yikes, could anyone follow the lines in yesterday's game vs. Ottawa? I think Carbo needs some valium.

He even started switching the D pairings up. While switching the forward lines consistently can occasionally jar some production out of some forwards, it rarely works on D. He switched up the top two pairings by placing Markov and Brisebois together for a while and had Hamrlik and Komisarek on the other pair. If that doesn't indicate that Breezer needs a freaking good partner to cover up for him than I don't know what does.

Maybe it was "punishment" to Komisarek for all the penalties he's been getting. But it's not productive.

Anyways, we'll re-start this thread now.

Here are my lines (disclaimer: they carry no weight in perpetuity):

Latendresse-Plekanec-Kovalev (18 mins)
Higgins-Koivu-Ryder (17 mins)
Smolinski-Grabovski-Kostitsyn (15 mins)
Begin-Chipchura-Kostopolous/Lapierre (10 mins)

Markov-Komisarek (26 mins)
Hamrlik-Streit (22 mins)
Bouillon-Dandenault (12 mins)

Breezer-bus ticket to Tallahassee

Price will start vs. Atlanta on Tuesday. Your eyebrows may be raised about consecutive starts for Price, but remember, this Atlanta team is in dead last right now, and then the Habs play the red hot Flyers, followed by several key division matchups in a row (Toronto, Buffalo, Boston, Ottawa; then repeat). Expect Huet to get the bulk of those games.

Grabovski will draw back in on Tuesday, though who he is replacing hasn't been announced. The money is on Kostitsyn, but Carbo has been known to throw curveballs from time to time.

Yep, Garth is healthy, but he's on waivers. The club may be making room for calling Lapierre up, but he'll hardly play so it seems pointless.

Latnedresse is out vs. Boston, Kostitsyn will stay on line 2 and Grabovski will draw in on line 3. Bouillon likely returns, so Gorges is out of the lineup. Price will start.

Higgins - Koivu - Ryder
Kostitsyn - Plekanec - Kovalev
Grabovski - Smolinski - Kostopolous
Begin - Chipchura - Dandenault

Markov - Komisarek
Hamrlik - Brisebois
Bouillon - Streit

Price
(Huet)

Bouillon - Streit

Huet

Ryder has really dropped off the map. There was an article about packaging Huet and Ryder - I now wonder if Ryder would be baggage instead of an asset.

Kostopoulos is not the answer on the top line and shows a glaring weakness on the right side.

Kostopolous gets the automatic one game suspension for an instigator in the final minute.

No word on Higgins' ankle yet. Could be seeing a call up here, or else Mark Streit at forward for tonight's game and Gorges drawing in.

Higgins is good to go. A huge sigh of relief emanates from every corner of Bleu, Blanc et Rouge Nation.

Lines are still not determined fully, but they'll be something like:

Kostitsyn - Plekanec - Kovalev (I am "officially" dubbing this the #1 line now)
Higgins - Koivu - Ryder
Begin - Smolinski - Dandenault
Latendresse - Chipchura - Grabovski (this should be an interesting young gun combo)

Markov - Komisarek
Hamrlik - Brisebois (one wonders how much longer he can hold off Gorges)
Bouillon - Streit

Huet
(Price)

Just a side note from TSN/RDS (Ice Chips)... apparently Montreal will not use Dandenault at D at all this year. He is officially a forward for the rest of the year. If there is an injury or two at D, the Habs will call up a player (likely O'Byrne) instead of switch him back. I think this essentially means Dandenault is at best #9 on the D depth chart now, if not lower.

Why doesn't Carbo also get the fine and suspension?

I can't read Colin Campbell's mind. Laughing

True, but I thought that was an automatic rule.

Pronger got an instigator in the final minute last week, I think, and wasn't suspended. I guess it's an "automatic review" (not automatic suspension) with defined potential consequences.

TSN's changed it, I guess Carbo did get fined (no suspension). Seems like a more consistent ruling, I guess. Hopefully the players take up a collection for Carbo.

Ryder is off the top line, and Guillaume will get an audition as the team's top line RW.

A high end winger definitely has to be on the top of Montreal's wish list right now. Ryder is playing his way off the team's future plans for sure.

Given his contracts, I think it's clear that he was never in their long term plans. Gainey assessed him right - he's a slightly better Dagenais.

Lines? I'm no expert but:

Higgins-Koivu-Lats (Lats needs to learn from the best)
Kost-Plekx-Kovy (it was working - so have patience and don't mess with it)
Begin-Chips-Kosts (screams of Detroit's Draper line back in the day)
Grab-Smol-Ryder (Grab and Ryder need to re-orient their games, and as they are doing that, Smolinski can be the glue)

Finally - win or lose, stick with the lines. These lines are about performance and teaching younger players, which is the key as I'm looking at 2-3 years from now (w.r.t. t lines), not this season or this game. i.e. Lats, Chips and Kost will learn their game.

Ryder is done. Gainey would trade him tomorrow for salt lick if someone would bite. Sadly, in the new cap world, a bunch of teams are under the cap floor and seemingly aren't being fined, while the aggressive GM's are already at or near the max.
