He has apparently begun skating and may need one more month to " make up his mind"

Can anyone say cap savings.

What's also interesting is that he's skating w/Jeff Friesen and Travis Green. I'm sure the Ducks want no part of Friesen, but certainly things are getting desperate enough in some places (re: Edmonton) to warrant a contract offer for one or both of those guys.

In any event, too little, too late. Anaheim will be lucky to even make the playoffs at this point.

Yes and no, while I agree they are sucking big time, so is their division, and they are only 1 pt. out of first. There is still time to turn this around, but I personally don't think they will.

SJ talent-wise is better, once Wilson gets the axe they'll improve. The Stars...well, they always seem to get blood from a stone so I think they'll turn it around as well. You just never know with the lineup the Kings have. It's a tougher division than what they're showing. Right now the Ducks just don't seem as imposing or threatening as they were...last season you couldn't outhit them or outskate them. Now teams are doing both to them easily.

Again, I fully agree as I had picked the Sharks to win the Pacific with Dallas in 2nd and Ducks in 3rd.

With Niedermeyer back, teams will have a hard time outskating them again. Their transition game will improve, they'll spend a ton of time less in their own zone, and they'll score more as a result.

They'll make the playoffs and be dangerous. They're not the "team to beat" anymore, but still one of the better clubs.

It pains me to say it, but the dumbest man in hockey likely won't get his walking papers this season.

Cam Barker's job is in danger?

I must have missed the thud, because I remember the Barker bandwagon was still moving at full speed. What happened, other than his obvious suckiness?

I've never been that gung ho about him, he reminds me of early Derek Morris. But when I really started getting on the guy is when I started to hear him speak. He's just... special.

I mean, look at pictures of him. Deer caught in the headlights all the time.

Moreso than Steve Downie?

I think they're long-lost cousins/brothers/fathers.

Bob McKenzie seems to think he is ready to play some hockey again:

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=224374&hubname=

Still, I think this wad has totally screwed the Ducks! Sure, he won the Conn Smyth, but I don't care who your - he's under contract & won't honor it! Furthermore, he's under contract for next season as well.

Personally, I've never really liked the guy based on the little I know of him. I liked him even less after Tie Domi elbowed him in the mug. But if he helps my fantasy hockey team out, I'll change my mind very quickly!

Expect an official press conference to announce that he is considering a return but hasn't made up his mind yet.

Sources suggest the Ducks are prepared to move any defenceman other than Chris Pronger who is under contract for next season. That list includes Mathieu Schneider, Francois Beauchemin and Sean O'Donnell.

Man, adding Beauchemin to Detroit's blue line would be awesome. I don't want to know what the asking price would be in terms of draft picks and prospects...but after they got nothing for Bryzgalov, who knows...I just doubt Burke has any inclination to trade him to Detroit. No thanks on Schneider...

Ahh, another one of life's great mysteries. Domi pulls a typical Domi bullshit move and elbows Niedermayer in the head completely out of the play, gets himself tossed for a while, New Jersey rallies to win the series, and Leaf fans hate Niedermayer for it and not Domi Laughing Et tu, Butchy? Wink

If Burke were to trade Beauchemin for half a season of Niedermeyer he'd be as bad of a GM as razz claims he is.

Yup, he's a great bargain at 1.65. Hell, he was playing more in the playoffs than Niedermayer and Pronger. Only Zubov and Lidstrom played more per game.

They still have to get Corey Perry under contract for next year too. Think anybody will take Schneider's contract? Burke isn't likely to even consider dealing Bertuzzi. Rolling Eyes

Niedermayer's return imminent: 21:30 EST press conference will announce just that, according to a "source":

This posturing is arrogance defined. No one cares, Scott. You're just another player. A very good one, probably a hall of famer when all is said and done, but this grandstanding doesn't exactly do your character any service. Either shut up and play, or shut up and retire...
