The current schedule format which emphasises 8 games against division rivals is likely headed for the ash heap of history when the NHL's Board of Governors meet Nov. 29-30 in Pebble Beach, Calif. The most likely replacement is the pre lockout schedule with 6 games against divisional opponents and at least every other year visits from the other conference. The Red Wings prefer and expanded schedule to 84 games, with the appropriate reduction in pre-season games, so that every team in the NHL will be played at home at least once a home and home set up. I personally prefer the Wings proposal because I'd like to be able to see every Eastern Conference team every year. Especially the Original Six teams.

Shortening the preseason!?!? Whatever will Jon Sim do!?!? Shocked

Seriously, even though I'm not wild about adding two games to a season that feels too long to begin with, if that's what it takes and we're only shortening preseason then I'm all for it!

Nice to see that Bettman and his idiotic cronies realized that not only were 8 friggin' games between division rivals not building upon rivalries, it was diluting them.

How about replacing the 4 Chicago visits with one from each of the other 4 Original 6? Mad

Something tells me Jeff doesn't have quite as much "fun" watching the Wings/Hawks games as you might... Laughing

They need to adjust the schedule so that when they go to 32 teams, it's a seamless transition. 84 games is a great fit for a 30 team league, not as much for a 32 team league.

For a rivalry to be a rivalry you have to have two relatively evenly matched teams. To have Original Six, Chicago, competetive with Detroit again means the world to me. It has been roughly 10 years since these games meant something. If it's the only Original Six team I can see regularly please make them competetive with Detroit. It's four more good sets of tickets in my possession. I didn't even go to a Wings / Hawks game for the past 5 or so years because the Hawks sucked so badly. So yes, I am glad Chicago has improved considerably despite their hanging some losses on us. Now Detroit will have to be ready and get up for Chicago. That means more passion and better games. It's a win win.

I agree Skip, I was just kidding around because they've beat us 3/3 meetings this year Smile

Evenly matched? What's this about?

Chicago wins AGAIN, to improve to 4-0 vs. the Wings this year. Boo-yeah!

Lidstrom blows a tire manning the point allowing Patrick Sharp to score the winner on a breakaway. Sharp got a hat trick (he can do that, he's very streaky), and Rene Bourque had two more as they ripped up Hasek.

Suckas. Twisted Evil

For fucks sake, that's three third period leads that we've blown against Chicago.

Patrick Sharp undressed Lidstrom last year for an OT winner. He looks way better in Chicago than he did in Philly.
