I didn't think Joseph or Saskatchewan in general were particularly good, I just think we played like shit. Winnipeg is missing Glenn - broken arm - no taping that up, lol... Then again, Joseph did scramble for serious yardage at certain key points, bent us over with repeated delayed misdirection screens, and didn't turn the ball over once... er... Sask, what were you complaining about? Laughing

Who's the genius that had two crappy, and quiet, high school bands for the halftime show? More to the point, why was one of them decked out in green and white? What the hell Lions, find someone else to book that shit...

Oh by the way, w.r.t. the rush end comparison - John Chick almost took Jackson's head off early, and I'll give you that your line is better than ours overall (Brent Johnson where have you gone???), but Cameron Wake had 4 sacks and was clearly the best player on either team on either side of the ball...

I was going to say that I conceded the best D-Back to Wake part way through the second quarter. Laughing

The O-lineman that was on Wake's end (Jones) was called for 3 procedure calls. I think that pattern suggests it wasn't just the crowd that was screwing him up, but he also wanted to get a jump on Wake's pass rush.

With Joseph, the one thing I give him credit for is he never puts the ball in a position for the D to pick it off. If it is close to an INT, it's usually because the receiver ran the wrong route. But Joseph missed out on a fair number of easy plays esp. in the 2nd quarter, and a couple of big plays, because of underthrowing the ball. That's my main beef with his game yesterday.

We had the fewest turnovers against all year.... last week Calgary got back into the game on an INT that was completely lucky, no fault on Joseph's part at all.

Yeah, Joseph wasn't particularly dominating -- he was as good as he needed to be with the way the Lions were playing, though.

International broadcasts:

U.S.: ESPN International/Fox Sports International
These two networks carried the game last year, so check their listings this year.

UK/Europe: NASN.

Online: http://www.CBCSports.ca/

I am not sure if they block non-Canadian IP addresses at the CBC site, but I don't think they do. TSN usually only obtains national rights, CBC is good at securing full broadcast capability.

Also it'll be available on Armed Forces Networks if that's your method.

I had to do some research for my sister in England, as well as a co-worker who will be in Mexico (I suggested the U.S. networks to them if they have them, and if all else failed the online broadcast). My sister unfortuantely dropped cable when she bought a place a few months ago, but she said she'll have popcorn and beer in front of her computer screen (pending IP addy clarification) from 10:30 PM local time to probably past 3:00 AM for her.

I'm inviting some friends over for a Grey Cup Party. I'm thinking of ordering the pizza tonight when I get back from work to guarantee it gets to our place on time. I'm assuming there's no 39 minute guarantee. Laughing

Yes, they do. Well, they did for the Western Final, anyway, as my cousin in Pittsburgh was unable to watch.

You can always try a Canadian proxy, but the slowness makes it a problem -- didn't work for him.

Heard an interesting stat today... apparently the Riders lost more man-games to injury than any other team in the CFL this year.

As much as it sucks, congrats to the Riders. They were the better team on Sunday, and I think everyone knows their fans deserve this.

Now this, ladies and gentleman, is a good "friendly" bet:

http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/news_story/?ID=223366&hubname=cfl

Quote:
Sometime after Sunday's matchup between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the premiers have agreed to erect a sign beside the Trans-Canada Highway at the provincial boundary.

The sign will read "Welcome to the Home of the 2007 Grey Cup Champions" and the losing premier will have to wear the winning team's jersey.

When's the last time that teams in bordering provinces have competed for the Grey Cup? Did Winnipeg play Toronto/Ottawa/Hamilton when they were in the West?

1984 was the last time - Winnipeg vs. Hamilton.

Actually, Winnipeg vs. Hamilton was like, the last 8 times such a matchup occured. Last non Winnipeg-Hamilton one was Winnipeg-Toronto in 1950.

http://slam.canoe.ca/Football/greycup_results.html

Old link, last one was 2003 on there, but still relevant.

Winnipeg was always a west team until the league was at 8 teams. Only when the league has 8 teams are the Blue Bombers in the East (so whether there's a franchise in Ottawa or Montreal at the time determines their fate).

That's true... it technically allows for the possibility of a God-forbid Calgary/Edmonton Grey Cup matchup.

Although to date, I don't think a crossover team has ever won even one playoff game.

Kerry Joseph wins Most Outstanding Player. First Roughrider since Ron Lancaster in 1976 to win it.

In what was clearly a western media bias, the Lions won all the awards they were up for, making the East Division shut out of the ceremonies.

And now...

Green is the Color
Football is the Game
We're all together
and Winning is our aim
So Cheer us on through the sun and rain
Saskatchewan Roughriders is our name

Let's show our pride in the Green & White
We will fight, Green & White
Sing loud and clear till the game is won
The best is yet to come

Green is the Color
Football is the Game
We're all together
and Winning is our aim
So Cheer us on through the sun and rain
Saskatchewan Roughriders is our name

Here at Taylor Field we are Number one
We're the best; East or West
We'll give our all till the game is done
Stand up and sing everyone .... Hey !

Green is the Color
Football is the Game
We're all together
and Winning is our aim
So Cheer us on through the sun and rain
Saskatchewan Roughriders is our name

It's "Green Day" at work.

The Riders got a mention in yesterday's Colts-Falcons broadcast. Not anything to do with the Grey Cup, of course, but because Kenton Keith was playing.

This came in my email yesterday:

Twas the night before Grey Cup, and all through the Dome,
Not a creature was stirring, but the gophers back home.
The players were nestled and snug in their beds,
While visions of Grey Cup Rings danced in their heads.

When out on the field, there arose such a clatter,
Kent sprang from his bed to see what was the matter,
Away to his window, he flew like a flash,
Threw aside the Green Curtains, and Silky White Sash.

And what did he see with his wondering eye?
But a sea of Green Revelers and a furry brown guy.
"That looks like Dominguez, and Flick and Fantuz!"
"Its way after curfew! Do they want us to lose??"

So, out of his room and down to the field,
Coach Austin stormed out with a fury to wield.
As he went through the tunnel, the ground shook with a beat,
From the dancing and prancing of ten thousand feet.

"Hey Coach," cried a voice, "Whatcha doing down here?"
It was Szarka and Schultz, and they were handing out beer!
Chucky and Chick were grilling up Dogs,
With Burgers being served by O'Day and the Hogs.

Crandall cooked Hot Wings, Joseph grilled steak,
While Cates, Holmes, and Hughes helped Makowsky serve cake.
"This is nuts!" Austin shouted, "It's one-thirty AM!"
"I expected some revelry, but this is mayhem!"

Eric Tillman tapped Austin, " You're not Eagle Keys -"
"But I'm not Berry, or Gotta, or Gregory - so PLEASE!"
"You're all waddling around here like Wascana geese!"
"And in need of a dance coach like Donald Narcisse."

"Now, you've all had your fun, so back to your rooms."
But then Austin's nose picked up the barbecue fumes.
Then Green Is The Color rang out through the air,
As Congi and Boreham played Banjos with flair.

On Davis, on Johnson, on Coach Ritchie Hall,
Even old Alex Smith flashed a smile after all,
On Lloyd, on McCullough, on Hunt and on Perry,
On Kornegay, Frazier, and yes, even Kerry.

The skydome then filled with a soft greenish glow,
And the whole Rider Nation set poised for a show.
An S and a wheat sheaf then formed in the air,
And a smile took the place of Coach Kent Austin's glare.

Then everyone there, the players, the fans,
They formed a big circle by all holding hands,
Then right in the centre appeared the Grey Cup,
Which Fairholm and Ridway and Elgaard picked up.

They handed it over to Ritchie and Kent,
Who called Kerry and Eddie, and off the Cup went.
It was passed round the field, past heroes to present,
While Gainer dug holes for the Blue Bomber Pheasants.

That music was heard coast to coast people say
And they say Rider Pride grew three sizes that day.
Everyone left there dreaming of Blue Bomber doom.
And they sent all the Banjos to Troy Westwood's Room.
