Scottrade Center, St. Louis, MO
---
Did anyone actually notice that it was now called the "Scottrade" Center? I was still getting used to "Savvis" from "Kiel." Can't they pick a sponsor and stick with it?
Storylines:
- the Canucks are coming off a hard-fought, "character" win in Minnesota. On minimal rest, they overcame an extremely hostile atmosphere to shut up Derek Boogaard and the Wild, for now. Just as they may have "looked past" Edmonton to that game, there's always a risk of "looking back" at it when it's done. There may be a little bit of a hangover, plus fatigue may now catch up with Vancouver after adrenaline got them through the game in St. Paul. Look for a slower start by the Canucks, accordingly.
- St. Louis' last effort was also on Wednesday, falling 3-0 at home to Detroit. Prior to that game, they had been on a four-game winning streak.
- Probable goaltending matchup: Roberto Luongo vs. brief Canuck property Manny Legace.
- Who's Hot: Markus Näslund notched a hat trick against the Wild, and has been racking up points playing alongside Henrik and Daniel Sedin. Brad Boyes leads the Bruins -- I mean, Blues -- with 12 goals this season, and had been on a three-game goal-scoring streak until the shutout at the hands of the Red Wings. Paul Kariya's strong start to the season makes him the Blues' scoring leader, at 20 pts.
- Last season the four-game series between these two teams had the Curtis Sanford angle to them. The Canucks actually went 3-1, but Jason Bacashihua tended goal for the Blues in the only regulation win, meaning that Curtis Sanford, to my knowledge, has still never lost a regulation game in which the Vancouver Canucks played. (In a moment of accidental foreshadowing, one of the game summaries from last season refers to Sanford as Vancouver's backup rather than St. Louis's). Ironically, he'll be sitting tonight against his former team in all likelihood.
- Fun fact: the Blues are undefeated when leading after one period. The Canucks are .143 when trailing after one period. Moral of the story? Show up for the first 20 minutes, boys. _________________

I hope they actually start Sanford. There's something to be said about playing the goalie that the other team cut loose... _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

| I was thinking Vancouver and St.louis for some reason never picked up on any high profile rivalry in modern times though they've had all the markings of a heated rivalry. Starting back in '95 with the 7 game series , Linden sedning Norton through the glass , Gino chasing Anderson half naked , Bertuzzi taking out Macinnis , Salvador in the playoffs in another 7 game series and putting Jackman on a stretcher the next season , Weight cross checking HEnrik in the face , many blowouts , Sanford owning Vancouver and destroying their 06 playoff hopes , lots of heated games , toss in the previous owner Bill Laurie is a not well liked man in Vancouver ,... yet St.Louis isnt much higher than the Phoenix Coyotes in terms of heated rivals. |

Added to that "the trade" that acquired Ronning, Momesso, G Courtnall & Dirk that turned around the fortunes of the Nux in '91. |

I think there is a definitely a higher level of dislike between the Canucks and Blues (or their fans, at least) since the 2003 series at least. Unlike Wild fans, neither side has made a concerted effort to keep it going against all odds, but there's something there.
I don't remember the 1995 series being particularly acrimonious -- I just remember Christian Ruuttu scoring from center and Mike Keenan thinking that Curtis Joseph was to blame for the all Blues' troubles, before trading him for the draft picks succumbed to get Shayne Corson. And in any event it was too long ago to affect the current players. Hell, even then, the two teams traded with each other so often up to that point that they were practically as inbred as the royal family anyway.

Not to mention the 1994 trade after the Nedved fallout which basically is the reason that the Canucks went to the Cup Finals, while the Blues ended up with Mike Keenan, Esa Tikkanen and Doug Lidster to show for it.
Note again the inbreeding -- all of those guys have Canuck connections. _________________

I was just reading Jay Mckee has been a healthy scratch for the last 5 games???? holy frak. He's making 4M I think. I thought Chouinard was an expensive press box ornament.
He's back in tonight only caz Brewer is out with back spasms. Man , there's got to be teams who would want Mckee , even at 4M. |

David McKee is hardly worth half his salary. If I was a GM and saw him on re-entry waivers, I'd probably pass. _________________ It's backwards time. |

Leave it to me to confuse the veteran NHL d-man for the obscure goaltender.
But seriously, same thing applies for Jay. _________________ It's backwards time. |

I'm not gonna stew about the reffing tonight But seriously,What is with Willie Mitchell and the phantom high sticking infractions,That call tonight was the 3rd game in a row where Willie got nailed for a highstick that never even came close to contacting the so called victim,You could say that maybe it happened too fast to see But I have to much freakin time on my hands and tivoed all of them.I'm starting to get a little pissed off here.
Anyway,Rant aside,I figured this would be a tough one being their third game in four nights on the road, tough loss but ya can't win them all I guess. |

| The Blooze always play the Nucks well. I don't understand why this isn't a bigger rivalry than it is. |
