Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - The Atlanta Thrashers announced Friday that they have placed goaltender Kari Lehtonen on injured reserve with a groin injury.
Lehtonen started between the pipes in Thursday's victory over the New York Rangers, but left in the first period with a groin strain and was replaced by Johan Hedberg for the remainder of the contest.
The Thrashers win over the Rangers was their first of the season and came a day after Bob Hartley was fired as head coach.
Lehtonen has struggled for Atlanta this season with no victories in five games. The Finnish netminder also has a robust 4.49 goals-against average and .879 save percentage.
In a related roster move, the Thrashers recalled goaltender Ondrej Pavelec from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League.
Pavelec was selected in the second round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by Atlanta |
Yikes, I'm really worried this kid's career is never going to take off. So insanely talented, but he hasn't had a healthy season in the league yet. _________________ Beat my drum down in Mexico! To Tijuana, Tijuana here we go!
