He's an All-Star, too.

So Dickenson is being released today by the Lions. Not surprising, he's a waste of a lot of cap space in reality.

http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/news_story/?ID=223684&hubname=

Unlike the NHL, though, the Lions don't get penalized against the cap for this move, and can actually try and re-sign him (which it looks like they'll try and do).

I don't know who'd be interested in him enough to sign him to more money than the Leos, though. Maybe Toronto.

He's a great quaterback for those 6 games he plays every year (Western Final excluded, of course Sad ). The reality is BC has to move one of their QB's, and they also need to free up some salary for other areas on the team. I don't care whether they move Dickenson, who's getting older and more injury prone, or Jackson - as long as they keep Buck Pierce as one of their 2 guys.

The term 'release' sounds so bad, but if attempts are made to re-sign him, I don't know if that means Dickenson takes it poorly or not. Laughing He and Buono have always been two peas in a pod, but Buono has shown he's not afraid to cut ties when it's merited.

What's Montreal's QB situation like next year? Is Calvillo going back to business as usual? Or are Brady/Maas being given a chance?

Tough to tell in Montreal since last I heard Popp was being evaluated by his own players by upper management. So they might make a move w/r/t their GM/Coach. Popp has said Calvillo will become the starter again, though obviously they'll have more confidence in Brady.

Calvillo starts if he wants to.

I still say Popp is out, Maciocia (sp) and Chapdelaine are in.

The crap weather kind of brought me back into reality this morning, but still hasn't dampered my spirits. Everyone's sharing their stories of where they were last night and so on.

Haven't heard about the reception the Riders got today at Taylor Field and the airport. I'm sure in Regina in particular they're still keeping the celebrations fresh for a few more days.

8th Street was flooded here in Saskatoon last night (and Albert St. in Regina) with people celebrating on the streets, horns honking, etc.

The game was ugly and not much in it to talk about other than that fact, but everyone had too much fun last night to let that damper anything.

Kent Austin has put himself right up there with Lancaster & Reed for All-Time Rider heroes, and he was close before this one anyways.

I might be alone on this, but I'd rank him #1.

He has been an integral part of 2/3 Grey Cups ever won by the Riders. If this team continues to have anywhere near the same level as success under Austin as coach, he'll clinch #1 all-time Riders hero in many more people's minds.

The only explanation for him not playing in the West final is that he no longer exists...

Chris Knox, the terminal cancer patient and Riders superfan who was "adopted" by the Riders mid-season, and was the focal point of a fundraising effort that saw him and 10 other cancer ward patients go the Grey Cup, died last night at the age of 24.

Crying or Very sad

Ugh. I'm guessing nobody qualified wanted the gig considering Jim Popp is still roaming the hallways.

I guess it's official, some guy named Marc Trestman is the new coach of the Als.

Here's the lame press release regurgitation.

Here's the reality from someone who knows.

Quote:
What remains to be seen is what spin the organization will put on Trestman's hiring, once it's announced. It's believed president Larry Smith favoured Higgins, while Buratto was the choice of owner Robert Wetenhall's. Trestman, meanwhile, would have been recommended by Popp.

"Trestman's articulate and bright. I was very impressed by him at camp," said an Als player. "But this would be a bad move. He's going to have no clue. He doesn't know the (Canadian) game and the personnel. This is going to be ugly."

Said another CFL executive familiar with Trestman: "He has no personality. He's a recluse. He's a different guy."

Can't wait to watch a Sask-Tor Grey Cup in Montreal next year. Balls.
