...sometime after the traditional Wednesday night Red Wings' game against the St. Louis Blues. This game and evening usually results in the most goods during the regular season.

Just started matching this.

Datsyuk is a machine. Nice backcheck for yet another takeaway, and draws a penalty.

McKee has been a healthy scratch for the past 5 games Question

Mmm...sushi, beer and guacamole...

Kronall with a sweet move at the blue line to Hudler for a one-timer, and what else? Legace glove save.

Datsyuk made a nice move behind the net putting it off the back and a quick direction change. There's hardly anyone who can switch directions as quickly and still maintain perfect control of the puck as Datsyuk can.

Zetterberg made a nice breakaway pass to Holmstrom back Kariya made a nice play on the backcheck at the last second when Holmer had Legace beat.

Samuelsson makes it 2-0 on the PP with a deflection off of Brewer's glove.

The second PP unit comprised of Hudler, Cleary, Franzen, Sammy and Kronwall is doing a good jump of setting up shot high on the opposite side when Kronwall takes the pcuk down the left side. It's led to a few one-timers and rebounds.

Rafalski channels Schneider and puts it into Johnson's shin pads. Ozzie bails him out by stopping the backhand opportunity. Ozzy also flashes the leather on a Brewer slapper.

Ozzy is a different goaltender. He looks more confident than I've ever seen him. And him between the pipes doesn't inspire a constant fear of a goal from between blue and center. His glove is fantastic, and he's doing a great job challenging shooters and taking away the angles.

Datsyuk lifts someone's stick twice, taps it between their stick and leg, steps around him, picks it up on his skate, kicks it to the other and then goes for a backhand attempt. This started from around the top of the circles. Fuck he's amazing with his stick.

Detroit scores a third when Draper lifts the puck into the zone and Clearly picks it up behind the D, makes a couple of fakes to freeze Legace and then puts it blocker side.

Franzen has had a few chances on the doorstop but Legace has kept the pucks out.

Now I know how Harmy and Chris feel Laughing

Ozzy gets the shutout on a dominant effort by the Wings. The Blues weren't skating, took a shitload of penalties, and were standing still for a lot of the contest with the exception of Ryan Johnson.

Detroit had a few more chances in the third on some nice passes, but didn't bury a fourth goal. We could have had a few more but we hit a few posts and bars.

38-12 shots.

Top of the league in faceoff %. We don't let the other team get the puck, and when we do Datsyuk, Zetterberg and now Filppula are amazing at getting it back in the offensive or neutral zone and bringing the play right back into the St. Louis zone. We were the first to the puck in our zone and break it out quickly, then we skate it across the line or we're the first to it in their zone. This is what I like to see.

St. Louis really isn't a very good skating team. Kariya's speed is wasted on this group.

RW and Pal score major goods after Red Wing victory.

Monday, November 26, 2007

By: RW

DETROIT (OTP News) The annual pre Thanksgiving day game has always been a special game for Red Wing fans. It is also the night, for some reason, that my main partner in crime, Dwight and I manage to find the most interestinfg situations throughout the downtown Detroit bar scene, both before and after the game. Last Wednesday night was no exception to the rule except maybe in it's exceptional number of "goods" stories as Tom has so eloquently phrased it in years past. I'm personally becoming more amazed as the years go on that these stories continue to improve as I get older. I figured that by now we would have started to slow down and these stories would have become tamer and more typical of a couple of older guys. You know, simple reminising about hockey teams past over a cold beer or two. BUT NO, we keep having adventures with all variety of agreeable and attractive female company as if we were a couple of 20 year olds. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining mind you, I'm just slightly shocked that it is still occurring. Anyway on to Wednesday's adventures...

The afternoon started as always with RW picking up Dwight at his house to head down to Detroit for the evening's festivities. Dwight was more than ready having already had a bad start to the day by stepping in dog diarreah at 5:00 AM and the day going downhill from there as he stayed home and ended up performing family variety chores all day long. I didn't even turn off my truck before he was out the door and into his SUV and ready to go. This should have been a tip off that things were going to happen that night. The trip to downtown Detroit was uneventful with discussion topics ranging from the potential new coach for the University of Michigan football team to the Red Wings need for a power forward and the story from a so - called crime tracking website that said that Detroit was the worst city in America for violent crime. We arrived in Detroit and found our usual free parking space and headed for Cobo Joe's.

We arrived at Cobo Joe's ready for the first beer / Jaeger's of the evening. I quickly found Jules, who will figure prominintly in the goods part of the story later in the evening. We also found Richard the owner and our fellow season ticket holder, Sabin, and his cousin Dave who were also going to the game. Dave we had met previously at pre - Thanksgiving Red Wing games. Dave is from Chicago and is a Black Hawks fan who is ecstatic about the Hawks turn around this year. We finished our greetings and headed over to JLA to see the night's contest.

The first period went as anticipated. The Red Wings scored and dominated. Joel, my beer man showed up at just the right moment and all was right in this Detroit hockey fan's world. The concourses between periods were jammed with the typical crowd, beautiful women showing off. The hockey chicks, Cathy and Linda, we have been hooking up with for almost 15 years were there and all was right. We returned to our seats for the second period and by the 2nd intermission tit was obvious that the Red Wings had the game in hand. We spent most of the 3rd period in the concourse with Cathy and Linda. We arranged to meet up with them later at the Old Detroiter bar if it worked out. I left Dwight and the gals and went back to our seats to catch the last 5 minutes of the game. A perfect ending with a 3 - 0, shutout, victory for Chris Osgood and the Red Wings.

Dwight and I had long since lost Sabin and Dave so we headed back to Cobo Joe's to start the evening's post game celebrations. We walked in and were slightly disappointed by what appeared to be a meager crowd. Not to worry, R-dub, not to worry. The wait staff was about to make up for that in a big way, especially Jules the hot blonde. I will not go into every detail but Dwight and R-dub had bar waitress' everywhere we turned. I most remember leaning backwards over the bar and looking up at a particularly good looking waitress's face from underneath her legs, etc while I held on to her thighs as she poured shots of an apple liquor concoction of some variety into my mouth. The bar top dances were eually spectacular and I have not had that many female body parts rubbed in my face, among other parts, in a long, long time. I ended up with Jules' top drapped around my neck for awhile. Dwight was equally busy with his share of waitress's and the owner's wife who was also in a real party mood. Nothing got out of hand with her as Richard was right there. He was also equally occupied with some of the wait staff so there was no danger of hurt feelings. To put it bluntly, as Dwight only can. He said it succinctly. On Wednesday, November 21, 2007, R-Rub and Dwight owned Cobo Joe's. I think they liked us. We finally had to leave at closing time but we still made an obligatory stop at the Old Detroiter to see if Cathy and Linda were still there. They had already left so we headed back to the Lafayette Coney Island to wrap the evening up with the traditional coney and fries. Until the December 13, Edmonton Oilers game. From cold and snowy Detroit, your Detroit chapter OTP reporter, RW, signing off.
