Who's below the floor?

I think they calculate at the end of the year for the cap floor thing, don't they?

20 bucks says that the fine levied by the NHL's CBA for being below the cap floor is less than what the teams are under the cap floor by, thus making it so teams will lose less money getting fined than they would by spending up to the floor....anyone want to give the league the benefit of the doubt? Anyone?

That wouldn't be just the league's fault if it was the case, Bosc. That's a negotiated element that all the players voted on as well as the BoG.

Maybe the floor rule, but the enforcement of the rule by the league against the teams? I dunno. If that was a negotiatied element, something tells me that the players would want those dollars spent on salary rather than fines so that teams don't have to pay salaries.

I thought the floor was virtually impossible to hit, given you HAVE to sign a full roster with at least a few millionaires in the bunch.

The floor is something like $35m or something this year, though. Which is higher than a lot of teams were spending pre-lockout.

I think the Yotes were under sometime in the summer.

The summer doesn't matter, though. They're at $36.586 right now according to NHL Numbers:

Yeah that was just a thinking of which teams might have been out loud. I guess the floor would be like the cap where you'd have to be over it to start the year. Just sign a bunch of backup goalies and you're set.

$34.6m is the floor. The Preds are the closest to it at $35.446m.

http://www.nhlnumbers.com/overview.php?team=NAS

Notice that they could not actually put Sullivan on the LTIR, though. His salary counts in full against the cap, plus that of his replacement, to reach a cap number. If Sullivan were healthy this time, say Jarred Smithson didn't make the team as a result. They still clear the minimum by close to half a million.

Enough talk of other teams, though! Laughing

Tonight vs. Toronto:

Latendresse - Koivu - Higgins (Higgins moving to RW)
Kostitsyn - Plekanec - Kovalev
Ryder - Chipchura - Dandenault (not sure who is playing what side)
Begin - Smolinski - Kostopolous

Markov - Komisarek
Hamrlik - Brisebois
Bouillon - Streit

Price
(Huet)

Today's lineup vs. Boston:

http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/news/sports/story.html?id=b3c79c2a-bbf1-447e-bf69-92bb356e3e7d&k=43659

Kostitsyn - Plekanec - Kovalev
Higgins - Koivu - Smolinski (ugh)
Latendresse - Chipchura - Dandenault
Begin - Lapierre - Kostopolous

Markov - Komisarek
Hamrlik - O'Byrne
Bouillon - Streit

Price
(Halak)

Streit, Gorges, and (educated guess) Ryder get the press box. How Smolinski gets promoted is beyond me.

EDIT: Streit isn't being scratched, Brisebois is. Ryder scratch confirmed.

Quote:
Bryan Smolinski (out indefinitely with a right knee injury - awaiting results from MRI Friday) and Steve Begin (out indefinitely with a left shoulder separation) are out and will likely be placed on IR. When that happens, the Canadiens could call up replacements. Michael Ryder returns to his usual spot beside Koivu and Higgins after being a healthy scratch Thursday in Boston. - TSN

If both are on the IR, there's a decent chance there will be another callup (likely one of Sergei Kostitsyn, Matt D'Agostini, or Jonathon Ferland). However, for tonight, it looks like this:

Kostitsyn - Plekanec - Kovalev
Higgins - Koivu - Ryder
Latendresse - Chipchura - Dandenault
Streit - Lapierre - Kostopolous

Markov - Komisarek
Hamrlik - O'Byrne
Bouillon - Brisebois

Quote:

Mathieu Dandenault is the latest player to get a shot on the No. 1 line with Saku Koivu and Christopher Higgins on Tuesday night. Michael Ryder moves to the third line with Kyle Chipchura and Guillaume Latendresse.

The other two lines (Kovalev-Plekanec-Kostitsyn, Streit-Lapierre-Kostopoulos) remain intact, as will the defensive pairings, meaning Josh Gorges will be a healthy scractch again.

There is no word yet on who will start in nets against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Price will start again tommorrow night vs. Florida, and apparently Huet wasn't too thrilled with the decision. Latendresse is a game time decision (and likely, so will Ryder as a result), and the hockey gods are keeping Breezer out of the lineup, as he had a groin issue part way through practice. He's missed the past 2 games with a bum shoulder, not anything to do with his groin.

This can't be true, can it?

Kyle Chipchura is a healthy scratch tonight?

Fuh Carbo.
