so lets say Naslund and the Sedins are the real deal and thats locked in as a set line for the season.

One of the top priorities if not the top before was to aquire a linemate for the Sedins. So if you were one who felt the Canucks needed to get the Sedins a winger , what do you think they need now?

While I wasn't sure the Sedins needed a winger....insert Pyatt, Linden or Shannon...they still need a legitimate RW who can put up numbers.

Naslund is actually listed as a LW. And players are inter-changeable, however, the Nux have been in need of a true RW presence for a few years, IMO.

With the Sweedish connection playing well, a second line RW that can play on the top line would be an asset I would be looking for.

yeah , and long term investment has to be considered too caz Naslund and Mo could be goners after this season

Which leads to another interesting topic , what would Mo and Naslund have to accomplish for you to want the Canucks to resign them at 80-100% of their current price tag. (Mo= 3.2M , Nas =6M) Or is it let them go no matter what.

Tough question. Depends on a number of criteria, I 'spose.

Both have played a number of years for the organization - Mo 8 & Nazzy 12. Both will certainly by the end of this year have seen their most productive years gone by. (altho' given the right circumstances with other clubs, their offensive numbers could still be useful and productive).

Of the two players, I see Mo as the most likely to re-sign, given the AV style of play. Nazzy on the other hand is not normally a guy that can carry the team on his shoulders as he & Bert did back in the early 2000 years. And at a salary range in the 4-5 mil dollar range, I can't see it happening.

I can see Mo adapting to a lesser role/lesser minutes, while IMO a third line role for Nazzy would not be beneficial to him or the team.

Having said that, if the team manages a run in this year's playoffs, it wouldn't surprise me to see Nazzy give a discount to come back as a second line scorer. He mentioned last year, tho' not as much this year that he thought they had a good group of guys in the room and at this stage of his career, that is a consideration.

Another consideration if the team does not re-sign either or both, what options are there to bring in a player who can play these type of minutes and be the 3rd, 4th or 5th leading scorer on the team ?

In this cap world it is a lot tougher to make some of these calls, than prior to the lock out. Either way, IMO it will depend on how well the team does in this post season.

I still think they need 2 guys who can play in the top 9. One RW for sure, but I'd like another winger as well. I don't think having guys like Isbister and Cooke is going to pay off in the long run - to me, they're good on the 3rd line when you have 2 really strong lines, otherwise I'd rather they play on the 4th line and move up if/when injuries happen.

By saying 2 players, I should also mention I'm not thinking of expensive guys like Semin or Doan, but a step down. Someone had mentioned Chris Clark, and while he may not be available, a similiar type player is what I'm thinking of.

And yes, getting two players like this probably isn't realistic - but you asked.

I was thinking eventually move Linden into Isbister's spot with Kesler -Pyatt.

then move BUrrows back onto the 4th energy line with Cowan-Ritchie

which leaves Cooke- Morrison- *needed upgrade*

Just as long as its somebody with some youth or on contract for 2-4 seasons.

They'll probably tinker with those lines all year - we've got a glut of 4th liners though. Basically as far as offensive skill goes.....

1 - Sedin, Sedin
2 - Naslund, Morrison
3 - Pyatt, Kesler (Kesler right now is probably a 2B)
4 - Ritchie, Isbister, Burrows, Cooke, Linden, Cowan

One of the guys I have listed can always be moved up - whether they are 'hot' or just fit the chemistry of that line......but I think any of them are just short term solutions. As much as I like the Sedins, they are in many ways an average first line, and scoring wise, our 2nd a 3rd lines are below average. Our defensive scoring helps, but at least one guy who could put up 25-35-60 would make for a nice group - hopefully someone who adds either some speed or grit as well.

I agree about getting someone who can be here for a while though. Someone like Kobasew would be great, if Boston fell out of the race. He's fast, RW and a local boy.

Despite all this, I think Nonis has shown he's not going to force the situation. I just hope he doesn't waste a bunch of picks on band-aid solutions.

in the past two seasons , Nonis was desperate at the deadline for depth on D , hence Weino , Carney and Sopes. What we have seen so far and its the silverlining in the injuries and suspensions is the Canucks will not be as deseperate for D. HOwever I still see Nonis trading for a cagy depth guy at the deadline.

Well seeing that in the Bruins eyes Brad Boyes= Denis "Potvin" Wideman ... I've been negotiating with Razz and I think Kubasew for Weaver is fair , Ill even toss in Cookie.

Apparently Carolina is looking for a puck moving defenseman, and is willing to give up Andrew Ladd to get one. This wouldn't solve our RW problems, but Ladd is still a good young player with pretty decent potential.

Yeah Kobasew and Ference for Stuart and Primeau... that's a paddlin!

Wideman has actually been a lot better...

Murray is off the table, he's on one of his patented hot streaks, scoring goals all over the place... I think we still have the rights to Chistov though you can have him for Kesler if you sweet talk us, we now have the cap room this year to take on his exorbitant salary...

Recchi has been scratched 4 of the past 5 Pittsburgh games. I know you guys had been talking RWers here. That's a very temporary "this year" only option, but he'd come cheap (little return).

Ryder right now looks to be playing his way off the Habs, too. He's a potential UFA.

I've heard Ryder isn't great defensively and probably wouldn't fit into AV's system. Seeing as how you see much more of him, is there much truth to this?

yeah , depends on Recchi of course. If his heart is into it. He's been a transplanted eastern boy for sometime , but he's always welcome back home.

Not only a former Blazer , hes also a former New West BRuin , a team I equally cherish with the Blazers as a true dominant dynasty in the WHL.

The Canucks can use some Cup leadership , this team only has three guys whom have been to the 3rd round or further ( Linden 13 years ago , Mitchell , and Miller) *edit..Pyatt did too

----------------------------------------------

Razz , enjoy old man Murray's " hot streak" , and speed up the process and start falling in the standings so you guys can start your fire sale already.

Seriously , though , still not sold on Murray , let SJ trade for him. Kubasew is on pace for 30+ goals , so unfortunately he's in that untouchable zone plus Cam Neely is on their staff now so he'll make sure they dont trade guys like that anymore.
-----------------------------------------------

Andrew Ladd falls into the BC BOY wanted list too. Speaking of A pwer forward from Maple Ridge? where do we sign.

Depends on what Carolina expects from Ladd , he's a 4th overall pick from 3 years ago. If they still think he's a cant miss Cam Neely clone , then NOnis cant afford it. But he too on paper is a nice fit for a Vigneault team.

I guess I wonder... does EVERY player have to be great defenisvely for Vaigneault?

Ryder definitely isn't that great defensively. He's a shooter who can bring some physical play as well, and add some pop to the PP. I know you guys have been talking about RH shots, so he's one that's out there along with Recchi.

No, great isn't the right word. But every player does have to be adequate defensively, and put in the effort.

I agree; Bertuzzi circa 2001/02 might be the perfect fit for the Sedins offensively right now (rightie, can find the soft spot to the right of the goalie on the PP while the Sedins work the puck to him - remember his famous push off move that the league banned?) but would be a lousy fit in Vigneault's system (can't be bothered to put his stick on the ice in his own zone, never mind actually backchecking).
