After two years of max cap spending, trading picks, and missing the playoffs I find it hard to believe firing the GM could be called overly "reactionary" Shocked

No doubt dude - these are Meddle's words w.r.t. Fergie, that firing him now would be "reactionary". Like hell. He's just afraid to admit he's a total fuck-up, although he did come close when he admitted that hiring Fergie was a mistake.

So... I don't really care who's GM for this season except that the scouting staff has to be revamped. The biggest problem I see right now is that they haven't been able to accurately assess talent (e.g. Rask, and poor assessment of Blake and Raycroft. I give McCabe a pass because so many fans wanted him to stay - like Souray w.r.t. Montreal. If anybody but Gainey was there - Souray would still be with the team ). Wondering what actual followers of the team think about their scouting staff.

Not enough picks to judge amature scouting, but clearly the pro-scouting process is not working.

Yeah, the Leafs' amateur scouting should be trusted a lot more. The've come up with some good picks in terrible positions in recent years, they've just been given far less picks to deal with, especially quality picks.

Or they trade away first rounders like Boyes and Rask before they get a shot.

It's reactionary if they've been sitting with their thumbs up their asses and haven't even considered making a change until now Rolling Eyes

Did JFJ make any changes to the scouting staff?

Why bother with scouts when you're trading away all your picks?
