i've been to Rhode Island, and while i was there i asked 4 people , why is it called Rhode Island when its not really andIsland, not one of them told me why!
i mean caman, how can you not know some trivial fact about your State, im sure its not the first time someone has asked!!

Yeah -it's pretty boring - much like Italy  . From what I gather - there's Newport, which is Rhode Island and it's actually an island, and then there's the Plantation, which is the rest of the state, but that name didn't win out - gee... I wonder why.

My understanding is that it was simply named for the Isle of Rhodes, with little regard to how inappropriate the name was.

I think Rite Aid has bought some Brooks-Eckard stores in Rhode Island - I would give anything to go there for their conversions. I'm going to visit TAPS headquarters.
