I admit I called Lindros' bluff and lost , he wasnt bluffing. A few years before , Mario did the same thing with Pitts , he refused to wear the Penghuin jersey on draft day but eventually showed up so I thought Eric would play too. So I called Lindros bluff thinking he'll show up and dominate with Sundin , Nolan , Sakic , Drunken Fogarty , Leschyshyn and Stephane Fiset for the next 10 years... I thought I was jumping on the bandwagon of the next great dynasty.
|
Mario's refusal was different though. He wouldn't put on the jersey because they didn't have a contract worked out. Lindros just didn't want to go to the Nords. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

| Was there actually a trade with Hartford? That was (as I remember) part of the San Jose expansion. San Jose got some of Minny's players....in turn, Minnesota was able to select players from other NHL teams. I think Minnesota selected Babych from Hartford and then traded him to Vancouver. |

I think San Jose got some guys through the expansion draft. Did other teams pick in that thing too? Was the waiver draft done then as well?
[Edit]Here's the answer!
| Quote: |
Dispersal Draft: Before the draft, the North Stars selected 14 skaters and two goaltenders who had played at least 50 NHL games by the end of the 1989-1990 season. These players were protected. From the unprotected North Stars players (but excluding 1990 draft picks), the Sharks selected 14 skaters and two goaltenders. Up to three Shark selections could have been unsigned North Stars draft choices, while another three could have been players signed between May 2 and June 15, 1990.
After San Jose had chosen 14 skaters and two goaltenders from Minnesota, the teams would take turns choosing from the pool of unclaimed players until the Sharks roster reached thirty players.
Expansion Draft: The other 20 teams in the league were allowed to protect two goaltenders and 16 skaters. The Sharks and North Stars would take turns selecting from the pool of unprotected players until each had chosen ten players. 20 total players would be selected, one from each franchise.
[edit] Dispersal Draft Results
The Sharks selected 24 players from the North Stars.

Not all of the players selected by the Sharks and North Stars in these drafts stayed with their new teams for long. Among players moved before the start of the 1991-92 season were the following:
Tim Kerr, selected by San Jose in the Expansion Draft, was traded to the New York Rangers for Brian Mullen and future considersations on May 30, 1991
Rob Murray, selected by Minnesota in the Expansion Draft, was traded to Winnipeg for a seventh-round pick in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft on May 31, 1991
Greg Paslawski, selected by San Jose in the Expansion Draft, was traded to Quebec for Tony Hrkac on May 31, 1991
Shane Churla, selected by San Jose in the Dispersal Draft, was traded back to Minnesota for Kelly Kisio, whom the North Stars had selected in the Expansion Draft, on June 3, 1991
Dave Babych, selected by Minnesota in the Expansion Draft, was traded to Vancouver for Tom Kurvers on June 22, 1991
Charlie Huddy, Randy Gilhen, and Jim Thomson, all drafted by Minnesota in the Expansion Draft, were traded along with a fourth-round pick in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft to Los Angeles for Todd Elik on June 22, 1991
Dan Keczmer, selected by San Jose in the Dispersal Draft, was traded to Hartford for Dean Evason on October 2, 1991
Guy Lafleur, selected by Minnesota in the Expansion Draft, retired before the 1991-92 season began |

maybe that was it caz I draw an absolute blank trying to remember a third guy... that makes sense and why I confused it as a 3 way.
I think our contribution to the SJ sharks was Craig Coxe was it not?
* yeah it was Coxe.. seeing that list..woohoo Im not losing all of my memory |

No, Hartford was not involved in the trade. N2W is correct: the Sharks were borne out of the Gund brothers' threats to move the North Stars to San Francisco. As part of the face-saving deal that the NHL worked out, the Bay Area expansion team (i.e. the Sharks) got to pick up all the trash off the North Stars' roster. In return, the North Stars got to plunder the rest of the league's castoffs. Why they couldn't just eliminate the middle man and conduct a normal expansion draft (which also happened, hence Craig Coxe and all) is beyond me, unless the Gunds had a really strong personal attachment to Jarmo Myllys and Mike McHugh.
So, I will refresh your memories: the mystery man was Craig Ludwig. On that great 1991 draft day, the Canucks sent Kurvers to Minnesota for Babych. The North Stars turned around and sent Kurvers to the Islanders for Ludwig. _________________

I was also pretty young (finishing Gr. 7) so I didn't know much about juniors anyway. (Though I still knew immediately that Stojanov was a waste of space). |
Geez! You guys sure put up posts quickly in this forum!
Not to backtrack or anything, but to answer your question J21 - I don't know if I'd call it hype, but TSN profiled him the week leading to the draft. I probably remembered him because of his last name. _________________ The fans represent the soul of the organization. This is their team. Us, we simply try to make it better. As mentioned in the Columbus GDT, the scoresheet on NHL.com now displays Näslund and Henrik with assists on Öhlund's goal:
http://www.nhl.com/scores/htmlreports/20072008/GS020363.HTM
By my count, assuming that's official, he's now tied with Linden.
Sucks for him to break it on the road, but it would suck more to have it done overnight as part of a scoring change. _________________

Aaaaand done!
The two points that put him over the top (vs. CBJ and CHI) both on Öhlund goals... weird. _________________

Didn't Ohlund also pass Lumme as the highest-scoring Nuck defenceman? Or are you in denial about that? _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

Tied him, he hasn't surpassed the Great (Twenty) One quite yet.
And I explicitly mentioned his achievement in the GDT, jerk!
(Though Öhlund succeeded Jyrki as my favorite Canuck anyway, so it's sort of moot). _________________
