I believe it's:
6 times against division
4 times against non-division conference
1 time against other conference
3 wild cards of sorts
Stay tuned. _________________

Under the new format, approved at the League meetings in Pebble Beach, Calif., and scheduled to begin in 2008-09, teams will play each club in their division six times, a total of 24 games, and the 10 other clubs in their conference four times, a total of 40 games.
The remaining 18 games in the 82-game schedule will involve each club playing all 15 clubs in the other conference at least once, home or away. The three remaining games will be devoted to inter-conference “at-large” scheduling. |

It's exactly the same as the pre-lockout schedule. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? Anything that doesn't mention that I masturbate over her memory is probably a good idea."

lol, as much I hate Brian Burke I doubt this has much to do with him....besides I'm sure the Ducks travel more than most teams. |

Dude, the GMs who wanted the old system are the ones who travel the least, generally in the Northeast. One or two eastern swings for Brian Burke is negligible compared to some of the routes he'll get within the conference, like Anaheim, Detroit, Anaheim, Dallas, San Jose, Anaheim (made up on the spot, but there are lots like that). _________________

Am I the only one who doesn't care much either way?
I've become so disillusioned with how the league is run, I just don't care anymore about the small stuff. It's like people waiting for the 2008 election - they've given up fighting the Bush administration and now they're waiting for the inevitable.
Sadly for us, Bettman has really sunk his talon's claws into every aspect of this league. Davey Boy Stern is starting to feel like a laissez faire commish by comparison. _________________ John McCain is fit as a fiddle… Is 71 the new 30?” - Fox News' Rich Lowry

Burke had gone on record in support of the current schedule, as in the division heavy one.
The NE teams, at least the Canadian ones, thought it sucked they didn't play the Western Canadian teams twice a year like they used to (which is what those 3 "wild card" games are for Canadian squads).
The division that travels the least is the Atlantic. My God, the Isles have to travel all the way to Pittsburgh for their furthest divisional rivalry game! That's a shorter trip than me going to Edmonton for a weekend. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? At least I'll get to see the other four Original Six teams at least every other year as opposed to every third year as it is now. That is until an Eastern Conference team folds / moves to KC or Las Vegas and Detroit can jump back into the Eastern Conference. _________________ "The greatest victory a man can win is victory over himself."

Not perfect, but at least this is an improvement.
How difficult is it to understand that you can't create a rivalry by scheduling? It's either geography, history or the playoffs (usually at least two of them). The current schedule was doomed to failure, at least in the opinion of most of the fans.
Now at least I can see my team play some of the other stars in the league more often. |
