| I'd have to say if Trev's not worried about why are you or anyone else? Benching is the wrong term anyway to my mind, they aren't dressing him for games mais non? They did this last year too, did you see the playoffs last year? do you want him in the front office or on the ice come that time this year? |

It's kind of a weird topic for Botchford to bring up, I agree. Linden and El Viño worked this out before the season. We all knew he wasn't going to play full time this year. _________________

I really don't think this is a big deal or a surprise. Lindens' game has been on decline for a few years now. By playing him in 60 games you're going to get a much better player than if he dresses for 82 - so when we need some extra toughness, or when we're playing back-to-back games, Linden wiil sit and come back that much stronger in the next game.
If Linden was such an important fixture in our lineup it wouldn't have taken months towork out a $600,000 contract. AV will continue to ice the lineup that he feels gives us the best chance to win throughout the season, both for the game at hand and down the road by keeping players fresh. I think most Canuck fans would love to see Trevor in the front office when he's done (as long as the Canucks are smarter about it than they were with Smyl). |

| I think Linden is here for one reason.. playoffs. Last year's playoffs clearly showed Linden has something to give come playoff time. |

| OOhhh surprise Linden sits for a game. If this were the nineties then it deserves a story but Trev came back in a very reduced role and was expected to only play 50-60 games. |

Vigneault made a really interesting comment on Linden yesterday... its on Sportsnet I think
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2007/12/04/linden_canucks/
| Quote: |
"We have to look at our team identity right now," Vigneault said. "We have one offensive line, we have a good checking line, we are getting some identity now on that fourth line as far as grit, grind and in-your-face-type hockey ... So that's where we are right now.
"Where does Trevor fit? If we want to be an in-your-face type team on a fourth line, Trevor doesn't fit there. We're in that little dilemma now." |
To be fair to Linden , I think there's a couple guys that are playig out of their role.. Alex Burrows on the 2nd line or line 3A ???
I do think Linden could play Isbister's role... let them share that spot. Isbister is playing well ...for him ,... but is he really untouchable?I dont meant to take a cheap shot on Isbister but if he can do it , Linden can. |

Well c'mon surely to God there is a bigger story around the Canucks than will he or won't he play! Reality check - Trevor is currently a fringe NHLer. He'll play until he's 50 if they'll let him, and hell, they probably will... |

Razz, I know that not knowing a thing about what you're talking has never stopped you before, but why waste all of our time? You've never even been to other hockey markets let alone lived in them -- I can tell you it's about a bazillion times worse in any hockey market in Canada. Toronto papers had like thirty stories when Joe Nieuwendyk "returned" to Toronto -- where he'd played all of, what, half a season.
Have a look at football stories in Texas or baseball stories in Boston... it's all pretty similar. It's melodrama, everyone recognizes it, and it's nothing new. _________________

No, it's more than clear this year is Trevor's last. He'll surely accept a role in the organization. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if he announced his retirement before the season's out. |

That I am not a globetrotter like some posters doesn't disqualify me from commenting on Canucks' fans lack of perspective. Nieuwendyk was far more productive towards the end than Linden has been. I appreciate Luvah's point about the playoffs, and if that's what I was seeing and hearing around town I'd back off. But most people can't get beyond "I like Trevor, he should be in the lineup", EDITED |

It does if you have nothing whatsoever to compare it to.
For instance, Leaf fans are just as gaga about Wendel Clark as Vancouver is for Trevor Linden, and Clark did far less in a Leaf jersey. When you subscribe to the Montreal Gazette, you see how obsessive Hab fans are compared to Vancouverites. It's all part of this business, and try as you might to paint British Columbians as the proverbial boogeymen when it comes to hockey, you have so little credibility or impartiality in this department that all you're doing is creating Internet noise. _________________

Why is it, then, that whenever I run into Leaf or Hab fans in this city, we quickly realize that we agree on one thing - that Canuck fans (again, not the ones on this board) are easily the WORST fans in the league in terms of being fair-weathered EDITED |

This is getting ridiculous, razz. I will absolutely not tolerate any broad brush name-calling of fans in here, razz. Tone it down NOW or expect every post of yours to be edited for BS - which would pretty much leave every post of yours about three words long...
And if you don't like it, too bad. _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.
