Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis get shipped to the Tigers for Cameron Maybin, Andrew Miller, Mike Rabelo, and three minor leaguers.

Yowza. That's a big trade. The Tigers I think just became major WS contenders. Cabrera is just 24, hard to believe. The Marlins pick up some major prospects, and could be in a position to contend in 2-3 years. The Rimouski plan works when there's no pressure from fans to win.

Holy crap. Both of them to the same team???

Cabrera is only 24. Willis is 25. Most guys that young are just breaking in, not established veterans with a WS under their belt. Wow.

What's going on with Chris Shelton anyway?

He spent all of last season in AAA. He basically had those good three months and that was it. The Tigers are moving Carlos Guillen to 1B, so I'm sure Shelton is available for next to nothing.

Who is playing short?

Illitch really wants that WS ring that he never had the chance to win as a player.

Only problem with the deal is that belt you refer to currently holding Cabrera's waist in check as well as that WS championship is growing by the inning.

Nonetheless, a huge coup for the Tigers. I suppose this means Inge is out. And no, I didn't mean that as a pun. Laughing

They traded for Edgar Renteria.

Here's a tentative lineup:

CF Curtis Granderson
2B Placido Polanco
3B Miggy Cabrera
RF Magglio Ordonez
DH Gary Sheffield
1B Carlos Guillen
LF Jacque Jones
SS Edgar Renteria
C Pudge

With a Verlander, Bonderman, Willis, Rogers, Robertson rotation.

My oh my.

Oh yeah, forgot about that trade.

That rotation could be deadly for a very, very long time. They also have a strong bullpen, do they not?

I just realized I put Inge at no. 9 when he clearly won't be playing anymore. I actually forgot Renteria, so put him in the nine-hole, I guess.

They'll need an arm - I'm not convinced Rogers has anything left - but beyond that that's a damn good team...

He looked pretty good after he came back from his injury. Besides, he's been winning on smarts alone for the past few seasons.

I'd be more worried about Bonderman's health - he missed all of September and might not be 100% next spring.

Does that mean the Red Sox are off the hook for their portion of his salary?

yup, Tigers look scary now ....upon hearing of the trade, Francoma said

Pittsburgh would be getting raped, but they have to dump Bay's salary. AL Central is going to be nutso tough this year...

I heard the Bay deal w/Cleveland is dead, but I don't have a link.

That's the thing, they don't. The only reason to trade him is so they can get 2-3 younger players in return, since it's possible his bad season wasn't an aberration.

No, they aren't. In fact, every team in baseball is doing quite well. In addition to growing TV and ballpark revenues, each team got a 30M cheque from the success of MLBTV.com.

The Pirates could easily have a payroll of 60-70M next season if it was a worthwhile exercise. Remember they traded for Matt Morris last season, and he has 10M left on his deal.

The truth is, the high draft picks they chose didn't turn out and they're considering rebuilding again. If that's the case, Bay, Nady, Sanchez, Paulino, Capps, Wilson, LaRoche and Marte are valuable trading chips. If you're going to start all over again, you may as well do it from scratch.

Neal Huntington is the new GM and he's probably very open to blowing it all up. I happen to think the Pirates are better than they think, and are a hitter away from being a factor in the horrid NL Central (look at the solid pitching staff).

Seriously, I just think Huntington isn't high on Bay returning to form.

I like the staff too, but they have other hitters overachieving, and I think he knows it. Mind you, Paulino is a stud...

Yet another article proving Jeffrey Loria is the worst man in baseball.
