Gotta try something. I guess if Carbo doesn't trust Grabovski there's no harm in sending him down to get some game action. Lapierre is a much needed option. O'Byrne is an interesting option at this point... I'm assuming his promotion is a bit more temporary.

Good. Grabovski was a waste of space - nothing against the kid, but he's not ready for the NHL and brought nothing to what the team needed i.e. offense or spark.
O'Byrne... I know his potential and like his size. It'll be interesting, but I agree with you sask - it's a short-term deal to shake up an underperforming D.

I thought Grabovski didn't get a fair shake in a consistent enough role to prove or disprove himself. Then again, it's not the end of the world that he's in the minors.
Lappy is an interesting option for a variety of roles, namely line 3 on wing and 4 at centre, but also the "not Ryder" guy for Higgins and Koivu.

Lol. When I went to see Lafleur's last game at the Forum, I sat beside a guy from the Maritimes who was a huge McPhee fan and explained how important he was to the Maritimes (he was from NB). Since then, I've had a soft spot with Maritime players.... but that only goes so far 
Grab, imo, has tools and some of them are impressive (speed and puck control), but he can't translate that to the NHL game. So I'm not sad that he's being set down in exchange for Lapierre, who may not have much of an off-ice work ethic but he brings a spark on the ice. If his last name was more Anglo - I'd expect we trade him to Toronto

The Maritime Provinces are Nova Scotia, NewBrunswick and PEI with part of the gaspe included depending on who you talk to. Newfoundland is part of Atlantic Canada.

Yeah, I know. Except that would make "Atlantic Canada" Newfoundland.... as well as the Acadians and Cape Bretons. I just take that to mean that some people don't want to be associated with some other people. Luckily, I'm an Upper Canadian and therefore have the God-given right to lump all y'all.

Whats all of your thoughts on Ryder ? Im reading he's in the doghouse , probably for good. I know the fans like Saskhab are sick of him. Does he have "game" or is he a whiteman's Anson Carter to Koivu. Is he a lost cause on the downslide or does he just need a new start?
Obviously Vancouver would be interested in any 25-30 goal scorer in their 20s. One man's trash is another man's treasure as they say. |

| That'd be Yan Boolish I believe you're talking about...I don't think Ryder's worth the gamble unless you're thinking also of getting Ribeiro from Dallas and Dagenais from, from...from wherever the hell Dagenais is these days. |

Ryder scored 30 last year without Ribs.
Unless Ryder becomes a distraction and negatively impacts the team I don't think they'll move him this year. Could be wrong, but the potential of him getting hot might be enough to keep him until season's end. Then he'll be let go of as a UFA.

I hope you're wrong sask. I'm with the contingent that thinks the league has figured him out and he's no longer able to compensate on Montreal. His shot is wicked, but I think he's losing the desire to work within Montreal's system and has become a Dagenais. Not in the sense that he's really a floater, but he looks that way on this team.
I was hoping for a Huet/Ryder package trade, but that's looking unlikely right now.

Ryder isn't Dagenais, he's Chuck Knoblauch. The guy completely lost his instinct for shooting. He clams up whenever he gets the puck and can't rifle it quickly anymore. He still works fairly hard, but he simply doesn't instinctively get into open passing lanes anymore. He's often meandering along the boards, or coming on a bad angle.
Also, if he isn't scoring there really is no reason to keep him in the lineup.

That's a much better comparison El. Early success and later failure due to a change in the approach. W.r.t. my analysis of Ryder - do you remember if the pitchers found a hole in Knoblauch's strike zone, or did he alter his mechanics?

Actually I was referring to Knoblauch's inability to make the throw from second to first a couple of years after joining the Yanks.

Basically Chucky developed some sort of mental blockage that prevented him from doing his job properly. I think Ryder since late last season has been fighting his own inconsistencies. He gets so down during a cold spell that he overthinks on offence and the rest of his game suffers.
Physically he seems fine, and he's not dogging it on the ice, he just looks distracted.

What was crazy about Knoblauch was apparently in practice and taking grounders, he was making perfect throws every time. Game time? The Wiki entry says it all. Rick Ankiel seemed to have had the same thing with pitching.
