Tale of the tape

http://www.canada.com/theprovince/news/sports/story.html?id=7ec32de3-3740-4697-9307-cd978eae1e13

Last meeting was a 3-0 win in Vancouver by the Preds. Of course, we all know what the Nucks have done since then: 10-2-2.

This'll be the battle of the backups: Sanford is in for Vancouver (it's a new calendar month, so he's allowed), and Ellis for Nashville.

Ellis has been a little more than a backup for Nashville. That's a legitimate goaltending platoon... and Ellis has outperformed Mason.

Watching the preds broadcast in HD... Pretty good third so far; a coupla goals by Daniel and it's 4-2 Vancouver. Surprisingly, Vancouver is getting several chances on the rush in the third... Trap is working well; now if only we had more guys who could take advantage of that.

Holy crap! What a goal by Linden! He picks up the puck off a scramble in front of Sanford, wheels around, no look, banks it off the glass from almost his own goal line and it rolls all the way down into an empty net! Laughing 5-2. I dunno if I've ever seen that.

Tuned in late, just before the 4-2 goal.

2 points for Trevor, one for Näslund -- they're tied again! I was hoping for some jockeying! Laughing I said on Canuckscorner that they need to have a ceremony every time one passes the other.

Can you imagine, every second game -- "Congratulations to Trevor Linden, who has just passed Markus Näslund as the team's all-time scoring leader!" as though it was a long-standing record...

Curtis Sanford has still never lost a game in regulation with the Canucks on the ice, for either team.

5-2 F. Great third period by Vancouver; they didn't really allow Nashville to get set up and AV had the trap working beautifully - they seemed to counterattack with speed and the Nashville D seemed to struggle with them. 3 unanswered goals in the third and it's game over. PP goes 2 of 3; Daniel, Henrik, and Markus get the three stars in that order. Back in first place in the NW... Cool My boy Edler is a +2 on the night. Kesler, BMo, Pyatt and Burrows with another strong game. Sanford still unbeaten. Cool

It's especially nice to be able to say that without adding "against the Nucks" Laughing

After all these seasons where the Canucks goalies wilted under pressure and now not only does Luongo stone the other teams but our backup does the same. Sanford may have liked the first Nashville goal back but he didn't allow it to get him down and he made some fantastic saves in the first period to keep the game close. Don't look now but the Canucks are second in the Western Conference with the Wings ahead of them. They are 11-2-2 since Nashville shut them out at GM Place on Nov 1.

First time I've actually gotten to see the Sami Salo full face cage... I'd assumed it was a visor, didn't realize it's a real cage:

"What my Dad's van looked like in the '80s."

In all seriousness, he had a creature which he claimed was the 'Sandman' on his old mask (not the Spider-man character, looked more like some sort of golem), and this one looks like some kind of tribute to Saruman from Lord of the Rings. Perhaps the artist misheard him...? Laughing

Sanford is also the modern expansion team killer , all 3 wins vs modern expansion teams.

Lets hope Morrison-Pyatt have real chemistry , they've scored nice goals since the uniting.
