In a bit of a bizarre twist, we wrap up our season series with the Hurricanes tonight. We haven't even started our 4 game set against the Lightning, Rangers, or Capitals, but this is the last time we'll see Carolina.

Carolina has been near the top of the Eastern Conference this entire time, so we didn't get this lump of games when they were struggling or anything. The Hurricanes were recently leapfrogged by New Jersey and sit in 3rd place.

Recently, everyone's been pretty mediocre. The Habs, thanks to their win vs. Boston, vaulted back into 5th place if you can believe it.

Montreal's only got a .500 points-percentage at home this year, which actually is a sub-.500 winning percentage thanks to the awarding of points for certain kinds of losses.

This could be a high scoring affair... the Hurricanes are 2nd in goals for in the East, the Habs are 6th; while the Hurricanes have given up the 3rd highest amount of goals in the East, the Habs are 7th in that category. More to the point, of the 8 teams in playoff positions, the Hurricanes and Habs have given up the most goals.

I'm on the clock and will probably miss most of the game. That being said, the Bees game didn't exactly fill me with much confidence, so I'm looking at this game as a kind of benchmark.

It should be noted the Canes haven't lost here since Feb 2004.

As we know already, Huet, Begin and Smo are hurt and won't be in the lineup. Ryder is back in, and hopefully enjoys a relaxing evening on a cold bench.

oof. 18-8 shots. 2-0. Have we beat them since Ward replaced Gerber?

I saw a bit of it. Not much to say, really. They got their asses kicked.
