Quote:
Twice, according to Scotty Bowman, Peddie was directed to talk to the legendary coach about joining the Leafs as team president, and twice Bowman was told thanks but no thanks.

"I didn't impress Richard Peddie," Bowman said on The FAN 590 yesterday. "I got the impression he wasn't interested."

Shocked

It's obvious Peddie wanted someone he could easily undermine without looking bad in the process. He would never get away with doing that to Bowman.

Kind of shocked Scotty was even interested in the job himself, I got the impression he wanted nothing to do with the Leafs.

I doubt he was. Like they said, Peddie was directed to talk to him. I don't know if that shows any interest on Scotty's part.

Is Peddie's job with MLSE in jeopardy if they hire someone to run the hockey operations above the GM level? That could explain a lot...

I'm assuming that person would still report to Peddie, yeah? Peddie would lose some authority though. It looks that MLSE wants to keep Peddie because he makes $$$, but want to gently push him out of hockey operations. Is his ability to make $$$ THAT unique? Couldn't a monkey not named Ballard make money with the Leafs?

Maple Leafs pursuing Marleau?
TheFourthPeriod.com

With rumors swirling over how long Patrick Marleau has left in San Jose, the Toronto Maple Leafs have supposedly shown an interested in the Sharks captain.

According to the Ottawa Sun, Maple Leafs GM John Ferguson has inquired about the 28-year-old center.

Marleau, who signed a two-year extension that expires after the 2009-10 season, has notched only five goals and eight assists in 28 games so far this season.

Marleau has a no-trade clause that takes effect July 1, 2008.

This could be possible .... Last I checked, the Leafs still have there 1st round pick avail. for '08.

The Leafs have to send back similar salary with the cap situation I'd think. Would they want a D in a package? Kaberla, Kubina, or McCabe? contract movement clauses aside for the sake of discussion.

I can't imagine the Sharks being interested in anyone other than Kaberle.

Yeah and not sure I like the idea of trading a twenty point D-man for a thirteen point center. Sure Marleau should pick it up, but I'd want to see him some of that first.

I think teams are just kicking the tires on Marleau right now, so I wouldn't read much into it.

I would, Marleau clearly wants to play for the Leafs.

Sharks ownership better wake up and wake up fast...I'm starting to believe the rumors that it's them keeping DW from firing Ron.

As for Kaberle, he's really the only "moveable" asset the Leafs have right now...apart from Sundin I suppose.

So I guess you'll just shoot down my Gill + Belak for Marleau proposal.

Oh almost forgot the Leafs will throw in a 3rd rounder as a 3rd rounder is the great trade proposal equalizer. Wink

I think the correct trade would be Berg, Hoglund and a 2nd rounder. Unfortunately the Leafs made the disastrous decision of letting Hoglund go to free agency, otherwise Marleau would be wearing his bloved Maple Leaf.

I'd assume that Antropov, Ponikarovsky, Stajan, Steen and Wellwood would have a good market as well. And Gill, though hardly moveable on the ice, has played fairly well this year. I think RW likes him, too (played on Team USA), but that doesn't mean DW likes him. Laughing

Dude - you guys are all way out in left field. Confused

This is very plausible; Fergusson will easily be able to aquire Marleau by dealing the 1st round pick in '08, 1st round pick in '09, Carlo Colaiacovo & perhaps another young/fringe player (Kronwall / Winooski)?

THE FUTURE IS NOW FOLKS!!!!!!!!!!!

(hence this topic being in the thread that it is)

JFJ needs to hang on long enough for us to stiff you with Auld when Manny comes back.

For Tlusty, naturally...

Really, since Maurice took over as coach, watching these guys is only marginally better than watching paint dry on a humid Summer day.

Maybe Los Angeles would pick Raycroft up on re-entry waivers? They would therefore only be obligated for 1/2 of his salary (Leafs would account for the other 1/2).

Still, this team is terribly short on character & I hope they continue to free-fall in the standings from here on out so recovery may be expedited.

Fuckers.

Watch fuckers, Maurice is such a stiff; he won't even dress Belak tonight! Tucker & Avery will fight & that will be it.

This team disgusts me.
