Anaheim just signed and then called up St. Jacques also
I'm reading The Ducks are set to announce a trade tonight and Pierre macquire on team1040 in vancouver is saying its an impact forward who the ducks are trying to move who will be RFA next year. Speculating it to be Perry.
I'm hearing Schneider to either Pittsburgh, NJ, or Carolina. If Carolina, Hamilton going the other way. If Pitt Sydor going.
Now the later is coming from Ek and is supposed talkcast, which i don't listen to, but got a friend who does....

Perry doesn't help activate Niedermeyer... no potential free agent (RFA or UFA) does, unless it's a deal that has Perry included to bait a team into taking someone like Marchant.

Perry would open up a roster spot and money wouldn't it though? _________________

The Ducks' problem is that they would be over the cap for next year if Niedermeyer came back, and apparently that's an issue (a bizarre one, considering you can be over the cap by 10% in the offseason, but not the season before). Perry currently counts $0 against next year's cap, since he's not signed. Marchant counts about $2.6m or so. Schneider counts $5.5m.
The idea behind trading Schneider is to make room to re-sign Perry. Of course, if Niedermeyer is only coming back for this year, and retires next summer, they'd have lost both Niedermeyer and his replacement.
If they trade Perry, I'd expect a pretty good return for them. And another player would go with it. The Marchant example is a lot like the trade you guys made with LA (Johnson used as bait to dump Tverdovsky). _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. Yeah, but during the offseason, you're allowed to be over the cap by 10%... you have until Oct. 1 to get under. Why don't you get that "10% rule" applying to the season before?
Besides, the Ducks aren't over the cap for next year. The cap is still undertermined for next year. This rule is dumb. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. Yeah I know about the 10% thing. I still don't know what you mean by the season before thing though. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

The "season before" is this year.
http://www.nhlnumbers.com/overview.php?team=ANA
Est Cap Hit (2008-09): $46.521m + $6.75m (Niedermeyer) = $53.271m
Salary Cap (2007-08): $50.3m * 1.10 = $55.33m
Understand yet? They are over next year's $50.3m limit (I'm not even including credits because I don't know how they're calculated) but not over next summer's cap. Why is it different for the summer and not for the year previous? _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? Kaberle was a healty scratch tonight. Glenn Nely said it might be a sign we're trading for Schneider?
Now that this fiasco is over I 've been thinking... Even though he has been playing like shit it is odd to scratch Kaberle with Commodore being injured... _________________

Yeah..did. Kind of think St Loo came out ahead again with a yet another talented playmaker. St Loo may be exciting to watch soon if they can keep the youngins together.

NHLPA lists McDonald at $3.33 million and Weight at $3.5 millions. I don't know the fine details but isn't that adding money? I'm not sure how mucht that Birner makes since he isn't listed on NHLPA.com so I assume its not the $1 million they seem like they would need to free up now? _________________

Ah Doug isn't on the books for next season. Oh well so much for all the excitement of the Ducks trading a Defenseman. _________________

The trade frees up cap space for the return of defenseman Scott Niedermayer, who announced last week he was returning to the Ducks after considering retirement. Anaheim would have been over the cap figure next season.
The move also creates cap flexibility, freeing up potential money to re-sign forward Corey Perry. |
By Sask's numbers, losing McDonald and adding Neidermayer puts the Ducks right at the cap for next year, so how does that free up space to re-sign Perry?
Also, doesn't it put the Ducks over the cap THIS year? _________________ I'm a Bruins fan - don't try to confuse me with the facts |

Well, first off, the cap number for next year is unknown, so they'll see how much money is available for Perry next offseason.
Second, rumor has it Nieds is officially retiring at the end of this year, and if that's true, then his salary is off the books and they keep Schneider as his replacement for next year.
Third, the Ducks aren't over the cap for this year because Nieds' hit isn't for the full amount any more, it's for less than 2/3 of his $6.75m hit.
Interesting trade for this year, as the Ducks make an almost sideways move in terms of performance for this season, but obviously lose big in the future. Maybe Weight can bounce back and have a productive year, and maybe re-sign for cheap with Anaheim and have another good year or two before his career is over, making the trade work out decently for the Ducks. But obviously when you look at age, production, and recent history, the Blues have the better C for the better contract. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. Wow...if he ends up working well with Perron that trade will be the steal of the century.
Weight is one of the most overrated talents in the league and he's been on the decline for a while now. I'd be shocked if he suddenly had an about-face. |

I thought they might--don't know whether Babcock or Murray ever tried them out as linemates before, I remember MacDonald being linemates with Chistov and Smirnov for the most part while Kariya was there...oh well you gotta figure if he works well with Selanne he MUST work well with Kariya, right? |
