I'm going to guess 3.5-4 mil average hit. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

I'd guess higher than that. He's their best player. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? Anything that doesn't mention that I masturbate over her memory is probably a good idea."

I was thinking of his contract using Getzlaf's as a reference point. Their numbers are close this season, but not for the previous 2. Their numbers looked similar for their first year but Getzlaf did it in 22 less games and has been amazing in the playoffs(if that counts for anything). So I'm guessing 3.5-4, but you're right in that he's their best player and so it could be higher. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

Uuuuuhhhhh....
| Quote: |
Centre Mike Richards, who has emerged as one of the league's top two-way forwards this season, has agreed to terms on a contract extension with the Philadelphia Flyers, sources tell TSN.
Flyers' general manager Paul Holmgren and Richards' agent Pat Morris are reportedly finalizing the language of the contract, which sources suggest is a whopper in terms of length, in excess of 10 years, perhaps as many as 12.
There is no definitive word on what the contract will average out to for the Flyers in terms of an annual salary cap hit, but it;s been suggested it will be in the $5.5 million to $6 million range. |

Sportsnet is reporting 12 years, close to 70 mil . That'd make it around 5.8 mil per. Boy was I ever wrong
Carter and Umberger still need contracts. Jason Smith is up at the end of this season as well. They're still on the hook for Rathje and Gauthier next year, but LTI and AHL again probably. I wonder if Knuble will be dealt with 1 year and 2.8 mil left on his contract. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

I thought the purpose of mega-long contracts was to balance out the cap hit over a prolonged period?
This is more Yashin than DiPietro in terms of intent, it seems. _________________

Carter's gone. Simple as that. As for Smith, they've now chosen their captain for the next generation.
Richards is awesome. It sucks that he's a Flyboy for life.
Barring major injury problems, this contract is gold. Of course, that's the reason you don't make these contracts... at 12 years there's too much risk of it.
I think Bosc and I had a conversation during the lockout in which I stated that other than Sidney, he was my pick for the player I'd build around that was still in junior. I even chose him over Dion.
Crosby vs. Richards... best on best. The Battle of Pennsylvania will be incredible for a long time. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. Agreed with you on all counts. I don't remember that conversation that I had with you but it rings a bell. I've always liked Richards, since his junior days.
If they do trade Carter, they should be able to get a great package of picks and prospects, because I don't think they can get a roster player without shedding some salary. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

They might wait on Carter and see if someone tables an offer sheet.
Umberger I think they'll try and re-sign... is Kapanen off the books for next year? What about Hatcher? _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. Knuble, Kapanen and Hatcher all have one year left.
http://nhlnumbers.com/overview.php?team=PHI
The first two should be movable. Knuble 2.8 and Kapanen 1.25.
I don't envy the Flyers' accountant right now with all of the buyouts, suspensions, LTIR and bonuses that they have _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

Giving a 22 year old a 12 year deal w- absolutely no financial incentive to perform is purely asinine.

| Didn't the Flyers just dig themselves out of a hole only to do it again? Don't get me wrong the kid is talented but I doubt still productive in the later years of the contract to warrant the term. As for the money perhaps a bargain in a couple of years if he goes to the next level. |

Richie has been hailed as the future captain of the Flyers. With the injuries behind him (knock on wood), he is a complete player. He is a scorer, great on defense and on the PK. This rules out the offer sheet scenario a lot of teams that probably would have been chomping at the bit to do this summer. Same with Carter. He's only 23, we have him until he is 33. Crosby is not going to like playing against him for the next 10 years! _________________

See, I hope the exact opposite for the same reason. It is a zero-sum league, after all. _________________
