There's an MSU vs MU game in the works for next December, and apparently there's been preliminary talks about having a Detroit vs. Toronto game as part of a double-header.

Michigan and Michigan State could be taking the "Cold War" indoors.

Michigan hockey coach Red Berenson and Michigan State coach Rick Comley confirmed a game was in the works for next December at Ford Field.

And, Comley said, it could be part of a doubleheader with a Maple Leafs-Red Wings game.

"We've had preliminary, and I have to emphasize extremely preliminary, discussions regarding the possibility of holding a game at Ford Field in the future," said Jimmy Devellano, senior vice president and alternate governor for the Red Wings. "It's been very, very light discussions."

The Frozen Four is coming to Ford Field in 2010, and Ford Field officials want a trial run.

Comley said he was told the game would be Dec. 13. That would be the fifth anniversary of the "Basketbowl" between Kentucky and Michigan State at Ford Field. That game drew 78,129, a basketball world record.

Michigan and Michigan State played before a hockey world-record crowd of 74,554 on Oct. 6, 2001 at Spartan Stadium, in a game billed as the Cold War.

"(The Ford Field game is) still in the planning stages, but we've been contacted, and we definitely have interest in playing the game," Comley said.

That'd be cool, but I'd love to see a Detroit-Toronto game played outside Very Happy

My only question is why? I'm in Ford Field regularly and I can tell you that the site lines aren't real good for hockey. You'll have to watch it on the giant TV's on either end to see what's going on. The sightlines are fantastic for football and you still have to stop yourself from watching the TV's. They are truly awesome. But football is what the facility is designed for. As an outdoor gme, played elsewhere, I might be able to understand and want to see a Wings - Leafs game but not in an indoor football facility. Play the Wings and Leafs at Joe Louis where it belongs. If you want a spectacle game with the Red Wings, play it against someone like Phoenix who couldn't draw big in Joe Louis on their own but might draw in a bunch of folks in for the specatcle of it all. Don't waste one of my Original 6 games on just spectacle. I on;ly get to see those teams once every two years under the new schedule.
