Lucic scraps early, Reich scores the GWG Laughing , the team keeps everything to the outside, and Auldie boards up the net. Just another day at the office for the hottest team in the league.

Man this is beautifal hockey...

Well, they won anyways

To disagree with Milbury about the Bruins playing stellar shutdown defense since day 1, this game is a perfect illustration...

relying on your goalie to make 40 saves a game is hardly shutdown defense
I don't know how many Auld made tonight, I just know the B's got out shot in the 3rd something like 16-2

Nice to see Bergeron in attendance Very Happy

If Mark Stuart ever leaves, Jack Edwards will have to resort to porn Laughing
He creams his pants with glee every time Stuart throws a simple check
Don't get me wrong, I certainly appreciate a defenseman who will deliver a solid open ice check that actually accomplishes something (as opposed to all the running start board shoves I see, that end up with the opponent keeping the puck anyways).

Zherdev looked a lot like Bochenski for much of the game - invisible

Bad interference call on Alberts late, nullified by a makeup call on Columbus
to kill their possible 6 on 4

Nice to read this on Auld's TSN tracker:

AULD IS HOT
3-1-0, 1.76, .944 IN LAST 4 GPI

Yeah, Zherdev seemed a lot more Kovalenko than Zinovjev on this night...

I disagree about the shots. The announcers made a good point. Last year against Vancouver (hey, they made the comparison not me Laughing ), they got outshot like 16-0 and were totally outplayed in the third by the Canucks. This was different - they did keep the shots to the outside, and they were never really under serious pressure.

Remember, Ftorek had us shooting from the rafters, the dressing rooms, behind the zamboni... just because a team shoots on sight doesn't mean they're outplaying the opposition.

Julien makes the point that they had to learn the system, now that it's "second nature" (gotta make t-shirts with this they'll sell like hotcakes), they can start focussing more on generating offense. I'm not saying I like being outshot 16-2, but I never felt like I wanted to climb through my computer and strangle them for playing like total shit...

As for Stuart, there's anice article on him where Julien basically says we expected him to come along nicely, but not this nicely this quickly. Kid seems to like the new system... Carolina won their Cup with a ton of supposed 3-4 and 5-6 D men; Frankly I like our D right now, even if Chara did look like a pylon on that one rush Mad

Dude he's freakin Russian.....

He plays if he feels like it........not because someone is paying him to perform a task. Its the typical anti-capitalist mindset that's so hard to shake.
The Bruins aren't playing good D....they are lucky on D and getting contribution all around (that I will admit).....goaltending for the B's has been HOT HOT HOT that's the story. Unstereotyping Zherdev I would've thought maybe having Federov on the same team would impart less enigmatic play......but I am not sure even Federov gets it yet.

I am still on the fence about Julien's style....I don't like it when they stack the neutral zone. But its also mixed with an aggressive forecheck at times.....it certainly is a creative and strategic coaching style. It seems to be working well for the B's and hell as long as they listen to someone behind the bench and play with heart I don't care.

I am still waiting on Lashoff.....Stuart is coming along but is 23.

I think Stuart is fine, I like that he delivers hits without completely taking himself out of the play ( like Alberts did when he was a rookie )
And 23 is still young, so he should only get better

Is Ference signed beyond this year? If not (or even if only for one more year)
he should be trade bait...he's a player that isn't getting any better at this point, and could be considered an attractive veteran under 30
Assuming the Bruins are looking for someone who can score outside of their own system...not like Ference sucks, just that he's in that unfortunate spot.
He's hardly indispensible, probably has hit or passed his peak, but is still young enough to be considered part of a package. Ference at this point reminds me of Don Sweeney at the end of his career. It could be he's just rusty coming off an injury, but even at his best I always got the feeling he was playing over his head.

As for Julien's style, it seems to be the same style that got Pat Burns fired
At least they're winning, at the moment

Heard Ference helped get a lot of the Bruins to start biking to the rink... but only after convincing Chara first. Laughing

I think you guys need experienced guys back there to help break in the young 'uns.

I wouldn't complain too much about the team's performance right now. Zherdev seems like a bit of a pipe dream... I don't think Columbus wants to give him up now that Maclean's gone.

I couldn't figure why they'd want to trade him (Zherdev) either, being in the spot they are
Not like I want to trade Ference either, just saying if you want something, you have to give something
Obviously Chara's not going anywhere, you won't get anything for Ward ( and I think he's a good influence on the young D) and you don't want to give up your young players.
That leaves the players close to 30 on short time
If you don't make a move, then fine...you can do worse than Ference
I only mentioned him because he's a player who would seem to have more value in a trade than to the team's future

Ference has at least a year left, he signed a long term deal with a hometown discount to stay in Calgary Very Happy

Kind of curious, I must have missed it... did Kreche (or cray-chee) get sent down to Providence or what? Haven't seen him in months....

Yup, went down and they brought Nokaleinen up. Grit over skill at this point... Krejci will be fine, just needs a bit more seasoning...

He seemed like at the beginning they were tabbing him to be a #2 center in the future...He reminded me a bit of Stumple

Nokaleinen certainly seems more up to speed at this level though
