Didn't see this game at all beyond the first Koivu goal, I was at a Blades game and had company this weekend.
Any notes on the game/effort would be appreciated.
And for the record, from the angle I saw, Kostitsyn's hit on McCabe was hardly dangerous, just a typical battle to get the puck out. Maurice is a whiny bitch... it was a bad pinch by McCabe with not enough support behind him. And, most of all, it was unfortunate how his wrist went into the boards.
Price blew a perfect chance for his first NHL shutout... he's started 5 in a row here without Huet... obviously I think Christobal should get back into action soon, but are we ready to hand him the reigns at freaking 20? He battled through a rough period and is back on his game.
Again, constant evaluation is the key. Come February, a decision may be made with regards to Huet based largely on the team's positioning. I still don't see the upside in trading him, though.
When Bégin comes back off the IR (and no one else comes back), do we dump Ryder? I don't like our depth options beyond what we're at unless Grabovski is healthy. I don't really want to start picking between Milroy, Ferland, Locke, and a struggling D'Agostini for the next callup. It looks like Lahti's a bust... haven't heard anything from him at the AHL level.
I guess my point is, we might need to acquire another forward of NHL quality even if we dump Ryder and keep S Kostitsyn with the team. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. | If you view the highlights on TSN you'll see the hit on McCabe. Its not typical to throw a guy into the boards by grabbing on to his arm. Sorry thats garbage pure and simple. Price was once again impressive against the Leafs. If we had to have a Hab score two on us, I'm glad it was Koivu with all the BS he continues to have to deal with. As everyone probably already knows whether its Price or Huet the probelm with the Habs is not the goal tending its the consistency with the other players on the ice. I think Price has that star quality. I think if you can deal Huet for a decent forward. Ryder wont get you much at this point. |

They were tangled, he didn't grab his wrist and slam it against the boards.
In fact, go find a buddy and try doing that 100 times on a local rink near your house. Unless McCabe's momentum is swinging that way (meaning he would have hit the boards anyway), there's no way you can 'guide' someone's wrist into the boards by grabbing it.
The Habs outplayed a rather tired looking Leafs team. Price was definitely the deciding factor, but the Habs were aggressive and playing well along the boards.
What impressed me the most is we didn't sit on our leads, if anything we came back harder after scoring and tried keeping the puck in the Leafs zone. We really dominated behind the Leafs net, none of your d's did a good job containing, especially the Higs-Koivu-Kosty line.
Bob Cole refered to Kosty as "Sergei Kostopolous." _________________ The Love Guru is a comedy like the Leafs are a hockey team. - G&M's Rick Groen

Look at this replay. McCabe and Kosty got tangled, even Grapes says McCabe just caught the boards awkwardly. _________________ The Love Guru is a comedy like the Leafs are a hockey team. - G&M's Rick Groen

| I guess when you slow it down it looks like Kots-er whatever his name is, just tried to push off from McCabe. Thats wierd how his feet were almost stationary and his wrist braces his upper body against the boards. I agree that the Habs owned the neutral zone. They played disciplined ockey for the most part and were rewarded. Markov looked so-so, probably on the account of him playing so much. Hal Gill seemed to always be in the wrong place at the wrong time or I guess in your case the right place at the right time... |

Weird, myself, about four Leaf fans, and three Hab fans watching with the game muted all just thought it a fluke play, did the commentators make it out to be something other than that? _________________ psssssssssssssshhh....bing bong ping bong bing bong...pssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhh. |

Um, watch the replay, he closed his hand on McCabe's arm. I suppose he was just keeping his own balance.
Ask Paul Maurice - in the post game interview he droppe about six f bombs, and then basically said no I'm not apologizing for swearing. Good on him - someone needs to take that dirty Russian's head off... |

Yeah, ask the coach that just lost his top d-man to injury and got embarrassed on national TV.
Or, look at where Kostitsyn's arm was when McCabe's wrist hit the glass and broke. On his shoulder, not grasping onto anything. Yep. If anything, it's a minor penalty for holding due to the new "free hand" call.
McCabe's dragging and planted his feet and leaning forward awkwardly to not let Kostitsyn by. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. I thought it was McCabe that got hurt, not Kaberle? Unless you're using Pat Quinn's definition of course, which means that your top-paid is your top player. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

Maurice goes by the same definition... look at ice time. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? Anything that doesn't mention that I masturbate over her memory is probably a good idea."

I saw the replay on this at least five times and couldn't see how this was any way interntional. Looked like McCabe fell awkwardly and happened to hit his hands on the boards badly.

Which Kosty?
Apparently they don't have an "A." and "S." on their jerseys to tell them apart, either.
As fun as it is to make fun of Cole's senility, you gotta feel bad for announcers w/r/t the Habs. There are now 6 players on the roster with last names that start with "Ko". And now we throw brothers into the mix without differentiating them on their jersey name. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her.
