Should be more in my opinion .... the guy uses a skate blade as a weapon, what will he do next?

I'm thinking he'll bring an actual weapon on the ice next time. Maybe a lead pipe. _________________ It's backwards time. |

Alright....so his actions this time were WAY over the line.....but seriously, using a history of 1 and 2 game suspensions to pretend this guy is the most dangerous thug in league history is a little over the top.
I still contend the Hollweg incident was blown out of proportion and the guy probably didn't know where or who he was when he swung his stick.
30 games is about right, but I don't think he'll play in the league again. |

I agree, generally. They have a list of the NHL's lengthiest suspensions and to see Simon at #1 and #2 (behind the lifetime ban guy who they eventually let back in) is quite misleading. It suggests he was the dirtiest player ever to play, and I don't even think he's the dirtiest/most despicable of his generation. _________________ It's backwards time. |

Who would those people be (all-time and of Simon's generation respectively)? Just curious... |

This repeat offender stuff is total bullshit too.
Chris Pronger has 7 suspensions and he still only gets 1 game where someone of lesser stature would see 5+.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/playoffs2007/news/story?id=2891998
1995: 4 games for swinging his stick at Pat Peake's throat
1998: 4 games for swinging his stick at Jeremy Roenick's head
2001: 1 game for leaving the bench to fight (isn't that supposed to be an automatic 10+?)
2002: 2 games for cross-checking Brendan Morrow in the face
2004: 1 game for stepping on Ville Nieminen with his skate blade
2007: 1 game for elbow from behind on Holmstrom
2007: 1 game for his flagrant headshot on McAmmond
You tell me who's a bigger cheapshot artist that "doesn't get it" |

It's amazing how Pronger has essentially done all the "taboo" big suspension things that have been handed out in recent years apart from anything like the Bertuzzi/Moore case. Right down to the flagrant headshot on Dean McAmmond. Cross-checking in the face a la Boulerice? Check. Stepping on someone? Check. Stick-swinging? Check.

You gotta be kidding me. You do realize that it's because he's so much taller than everyone else so he can't possibly be expected to keep his arms down? _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

and how's he not supposed to step on a Finnish pest with his skate blade.
(funny how it's Nieminen and Ruutu that are the victims of that - surpised Tikannen never got it back in the day) |

You're joking, right? Look at how tall the freakin guy is. It's a credit to his concern for his fellow players that random finnish pests aren't stepped on and women everywhere aren't impregnated every time he takes a stride. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

Thank you very much, Bell. The first time I saw it I wasn't sure where to look or what I was seeing. The second time I saw it..I couldn't believe what I was seeing, so I replayed it again.
Holy Freakin' shit. What the hell was he expecting to happen? It was right in front of the referees. Simon is a danger. He simply does not care what he does or what consequences will follow.
Read this here first: I will not be surprised if Chris Simon finds himself on trial for murder - not on the rink - but out in the world. He has no regard for other people. Period.
As far as Pronger..he's a Prick.
And I have observed, from a fan standpoint, that the NHL has never been equitable in their doling out punishments. The NHL has no concrete guidelines, as far as I can see.
If there are any guidelines, I'd appreciate one of you guys pointing me in the direction where I might find them.
Thanks

Here are the guidelines:
The X-axis is media outrage. The Y-axis is number of games suspended. _________________

If it's an Anaheim player, it's a flat line across the bottom of the x axis. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

,,, and if it's Chris Pronger, it's just a point at the lower left corner. The media wouldn't dare be outraged, and therefore the league metes out one game. _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

I think that's more to do with Brian Burke than Chris Pronger or the media. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!
