Or since it's just after the holidays..."It Came Upon a Midnight Cleary."

Or in case those two weren't annoying enough to Bosc, how 'bout "Dallas in Wonderland?"

VS.

PREVIEW

Well, nice to see Detroit sometime before the new year for a change. I know the rivalry is dead but this should be a fun game to watch nonetheless. Both teams have played well coming into this game, both teams are well-versed in the fine art of offense, and both teams sport solid talent. The Avs are also expected to get Ryan Smyth and Brad Richardson back.

Lines as per the HF people and scuttlebutt from the local rags:

Smyth-Stastny-Hejduk
Wolski-Richardson-Brunette
Hlinka-Hensick-Svatos
McCormick-Guite-Laperriere

Once again the Avs recent resurgence can be largely attributed to our own version of the "grind line," the threesome of Cody McCormick, Ben Guite, and Ian Laperriere who provide the grit and energy (and some scoring to boot) this team really needs on a night-to-night basis. I'm not really expecting the Avs to win this one, but I'm thinking they'll keep it close and keep the dynamic duo of Zetterberg and Datsyuk in check. More than likely it'll be Av-killers Tomas Holmstrom and/or Johan Franzen who end up doing most of the damage.

I will most definitely be watching from home as Denver is expected to have up to 10" of snow tonight.

Avs have held the line well in the first few minutes, forcing Detroit to dump it in instead of carrying it over, and getting to the pucks in the corner.

First whistle after 5 minutes Laughing

Nice feed by Hejduk and a nice stop by Hasek.

Nice effort by the Avs on the power play, Hasek actually had to make a couple good saves, Avs are also moving the puck well and aren't turning it over as much in the neutral zone as I expected.

Oh and ALERT THE MEDIA, Skrastins laid an effective check along the boards!!! Shocked

The line of Ellis, Downey and Hartigan have had a bunch of shifts already.

Hasek needs to learn how to stay upright after making a stop instead of falling onto his back every fucking time. :Chris18:

Nice play by Filppula to take it across and protect the puck. Just put it on net and you can get a rebound or a bounce.

Av have you said that Budaj has problems with his rebounds, or was that just Candy?

What in the hell is McNabb talking about saying that you can't see or feel collisions like Liles and Cleary on tv?

No surprise there, Avs play thoroughly solid, but one defensive breakdown later and it's 1-0 Dead Things. Finger gave WAY too much room to Voltron, should've at least crowded him as he passed the blue line.

Liles HAS GOT to learn how to hit the net again.

Wow that last power play by the Avs was just sloppy.

Anyway I think the Avs can at least tie it up but they have to play it with more physicality in the defensive zone.

Whoever it was did a decent enough job forcing him to the outside while he was protecting the puck, but Cleary drove hard to the net and wasn't tied up well enough.

Sweet move by Kronwall at the blue line, blasts it on net and Filppula showed some nice hands to get the rebound and put it in Very Happy

Voltron strikes again! 2-0. Evil or Very Mad

SERIOUSLY...where did Brett Clark learn how to cover the slot area, he was nowhere near Voltron when the rebound came straight to him, Voltron had enough time to put it on his forehand and then roof it past Budaj.

And off a bad turnover by Rafalski, Cody McLeod steals it and puts it past Hasek to score his first NHL goal!!!! Smile

That's the kind of play that I've seen from Rafalski sometimes that I don't like Evil or Very Mad He waits a little too long to try to make a perfect pass instead of making a safe play, and ends up giving it away. Nice goal Mad

Av what is Budaj's rebound control like?

That dude in Altitude's studio is raping Voltron's name.

Was talking to the gf for a while. Saw the Avs second goal, rebound that eluded a couple of Detroit guys and went to Svatos.

Hasek made a patented bonehead puck-playing mistake.

Hudler blew a slapper by Budaj top glove.

They also showed this hilarious wipeout by Hasek during the period:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=7WsxQ6okpg8

I don't know why Roy was so bent out of shape, I'd be laughing too hard to be pissed off Laughing

Roy lost it on Maltby too Laughing

Fucking Haynes loses his mind every time the Avs put a shot near the net. I don't see why the Pepsi Center uses the horn when they have that guy screaming.

Our outlet game is much better and quicker with Osgood in net because he's far better than Hasek at stopping shootins and playing the puck to our defense.

What is Hannan doing trying to handle the puck when he's the last man back with an empty net with Datsyuk on him? Get it out man...

Samuelsson seals the win with an empty netter. They had Filppula out there for a bit but he couldn't get it before his shift was over. Filppula had an excellent all-around game.

Very good, clean game. Both teams with some good chances, Avs looked like they might have had more scoring chances around the net but Hasek played well.
