...Or so it is rumored: http://www.ottawasun.com/Sports/Hockey/2007/12/30/4745594-sun.html

Turned down $30m for 5 years... That's a lot of beer, cigarettes, and cougars for a 22-year-old.

He knows he's in the driver's seat with the Flamers bound for a big cap crunch this offseason.

I just hope he doesn't ask for a "no-movement" clause otherwise he may just very well destined to be McCabe 2.0.

Apparently the numbers are a load:

http://www2.sportsnet.ca/blogs/hockey_hearsay/2008/01/09/dion_dollars_a_fallacy/

Quote:
The rumours of Dion Phaneuf asking for a $30 million contract extension are far more fantasy than they are fact, said Phaneuf's agent Don Meehan.

Responding to contract rumours, Dion's agent Don Meehan denied that Phaneuf was looking for a five year, $30 million contract extension, or a 10-year $60 million pact. Both he said are fabrications.

"You know, I think it's people making guesses, really," said Meehan in a story in the Vancouver Province. "We really have had only general discussions in the latter part of the year, in December. So I really don't know where these numbers have come from because we haven't had any serious discussion about numbers or formal proposals."

Phaneuf is currently making $1.4 million and can become a free agent in July.

Meehan? Yeah, then they probably are fabrications. He's probably starting negotiations at max per year.

TSN is saying that a Phaneuf re-signing is imminent.

I'm curious to see if Sutter managed to get Dion to drink the Kool-aid...

He must have gotten screwed and then took it out on JR last night. He was quite ornery.

TSN is reporting that he signed a six-year deal worth $6.5M per. That's a lot of cigarettes.
