Maltby will likely be back next week.

5th time's a charm?

Mad

Zetterberg opens up the scoring on a fast outlet, tic-tac-toe passing and a great move by Zetterberg.

Filppula goes for the wraparound but Khabby makes the stop. This guy keeps getting better and better. He started off slowly after having a very good playoffs, but has picked it up. I hope he can keep it up for the whole season.

Holmer isn't in the lineup tonight.

If I leave the door open and lean over, I can see about half of my tv while on the can. Maybe I really should move my shelf and shift the wall unit.

4 man attack leads to a pass to Cleary, backhand to forehand move and the shot trickles across the line. 2-0 Detroit.

I was doing dishes when the penalty on Khabby was called but the Hawks announcers said it was a weak slash with some embellishment by Kopecky. Detroit gains the zone on the ensuing power play. Lidstrom dishes it off to Hudler, I was watching Samuelsson on the left side the whole time but didn't think he had the greatest angle for the one-timer. Hudler dishes it off and Samuelsson does his best imitation of Shanny with a short windup, putting it through Khabby for a 3-0 lead.

Hudler with two assists and Sammy with a G, A so far.

Damn, I like this Jay Blunk dude that the Hawks have brought into the fold. He's really pumped to be working with the Hawks.

Can anyone remember if there has been 2 defensemen from the same team being the top 2 scoring D in the league? It's early, but Lidstrom and Rafalski have the opportunity to do it...

Savard has left Khabby in net and Havlat has not left due to injury to start the 2nd period.

Awesome play by Lidstrom to keep it in the Hawks zone on the PP. No goal on the PP unfortunately...

Example of good coaching and what it does:

Detroit is taking it out of the zone. A hawk player makes a play on the puck that could lead to a turnover. Why nothing happens out of it? There's 2 or 3 other players there in support of the puck-carrier. The guy carrying it out should not be the last man back(see: tons of goals by Datsyuk, Selanne OT goal in the playoffs last year off of Lilja). An older Hab great talked a year or two about Detroit's puck possession game and said that they do such a great job in support and that's why their system works and why they don't give up a lot of turnovers resulting in odd-man rushes.

Chicago announcers(dunno who's doing the play, I think Eddie O is doing colour) need to do their homework. It's not Samuelsson who's called the Mule Laughing

This was fun to watch. Not a hitting, bruising game - just great skill and good skating on both teams. Well, mostly on the Detroit side.

Now I want to go back and find out why we lost all the other games with Chicago. As I said before, I haven't been able to see a lot of hockey with my travel schedule.

Looks like the last pair to do it was Al Mac and Suter for the Flames it 87-88 or something, and the only other tandem to do it was Denis and Jean Potvin back in 75-76.
