There's been bad news for the Lions of late, too, as Joe Smith is very possibly NFL-bound, and Jacques Chapdelaine came back as "receivers coach". Evil or Very Mad

New Als head coach Marc Trestman was in Montreal for the first time today. I'm actually on board with the choice now, especially if he can convince Jim Daley to come back and join his staff.

He's a smart football guy, and he appears humble enough to listen to the guys on his staff with CFL experience.

Now Jim Popp has to find him a QB and some new O-linemen.

I think I'm going to buy a partial season ticket plan once we pick up some free agents.

We lost Kenton Keith last year to the Super Bowl Champs and then won the Grey Cup.

If Austin were to leave, I'd have to think Richie Hall would get the Head Coach gig, and then Tillman's job would be finding a new defensive co-ordinator. Hall lost out on the Als' Head Coach gig earlier this summer and was a runner-up to Austin last summer. He's been with the Roughies for like, 20 straight years or something, with only a year or two off after he retired, and was a key member of both the '89 and '07 Cups.

It seems Marc Trestman won over at least one curmudgeonly journalist yesterday.

Watch out CFL, the Als ain't finished yet.

You used journalism and Jack Todd in the same sentence.

The man's one foot in his grave, I'm trying to be nice.

Another coaching move: Charlie Taaffe bolts Steeltown for the OC job at West Virginia. I'm guessing Higgins/Buratto/Daly will be the familiar names rumoured.

Correction: Suits was just on Pratt and Taylor here in Vancouver; the paper that broke the Taffe story has called the Tabbies to apologize; Taffe is staying in Steeltown...

The latest on Austingate... the Riders have tabled a contract extension to Kent that would make him the highest paid coach (supposedly, or at least on level with the highest paid) in the CFL.

It's believed it would exceed the supposed $300,000 per yer gig that Ole Miss' OC job would pay out. Most CFL Head Coaches make in the $200k to $225k range.

Kent Austin takes the Ole Miss gig:

Can't escape the lure of the Alma Mater.

Never saw this before. Roughies were named the 2007 Team of the Year by the Canadian Press.

What a year. But what a tough way to start the next. Mad

C'mon, Richie. It's your destiny.

The audit is not complete of all teams, and Tillman's said that Sask's league leading man games lost to injury made things "difficult" but he believes they still were under. We'll see.

This report (on Friday) was false and dismissed by the CFL yesterday.

Tillman has zero credibility. He has an irrational hate on for the Leos, probably because he was so obviously incompetent whilst here...

He won you a Grey Cup... Confused

And it was the CFL that refuted the report, Tillman merely commented on the Riders' situation w/r/t the audits.

http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/news_story/?ID=227720&hubname=cfl

Quote:
"The audit of the league's teams is still underway and the results are still not known," the CFL said in a statement on Saturday. "Those results will not be available until April. Until that time, speculation on the outcome of the audit is just that: speculation that is not supported by the facts."

There is a lot of just plain bad reporting when it comes to the CFL. All the owners hate each other (moreso than any other league I follow), and so it's possible this got "leaked" by someone vindictive. The fact that the original report said we lost our 1st round pick is particularly laughable because, well, no action has been taken.

Dave Dickenson returns to Calgary and CKNW is reporting that Jarious Jackson has re-signed with BC.
