Hey, it's a signing, isn't it?

Globe and Mail wrote:

CBC Sports reached a six-year agreement with broadcaster Jim Hughson on Tuesday.

Hughson will continue to broadcast both NHL and Toronto Blue Jays games on CBC.

[...]

Hughson began broadcasting NHL games in 1979 and joined CBC's Hockey Night in Canada prior to the 2005-'06 NHL season.

"Jim Hughson is a talent like no other, and we are thrilled to continue our partnership with him," Scott Moore, executive director, CBC Sports, said in a statement. "With Jim and Bob Cole, CBC Sports now employs the top two play-by-play announcers in this country for our hockey broadcasts.

"Having Jim in our lineup exclusively for the next six seasons, on both our hockey and our baseball telecasts, is great news for our viewers and great news for CBC Sports."

Sucks for Canuck fans to lose him has the principal broadcaster on Sportsnet Pacific (at least those in the region -- us expats are blacked out, of course).

I guess John Shorthouse (radio) now becomes the favorite for TV. I suppose the days of the simulcast are dead -- when the Canucks were on non-cable TV, the broadcast was simply shared for TV and radio.

I would have assumed that an exclusive Hughson signing would mean Bob Cole's retirement... apparently not?!
