As in, players who left the NHL for Russia, and how they did:

Quote:
HEROES

Oleg Saprykin (CSKA, from Ottawa): “That this reckless, driving forward was given so little ice time across the ocean was NHL coaches’ mistake. At CSKA he is irreplaceable, leading the team in scoring (26+20=46). He reportedly wants to return to the NHL, but the Superliga must do everything it can to keep him here.”

Alexei Yashin (Lokomotiv, from Islanders): “Granted, Alexei’s hockey has lost its previous luster. But he remains one of the league’s strongest players and was his team’s top sniper.”

Alexander Perezhogin (Salavat Yulaev, from Montreal): “Many were surprised that he left Montreal, but the player himself said he wanted to play in his native land for a little while. He’s making substantially more money here, but it was justified, as he led the team in goal-scoring.”

Alexander Svitov (Avangard, from Columbus): “No accident that he was made captain of the club.”

YEOMEN (literally “Yeoman farmers,” with a meaning of “solid contributors”)

Dmitriy Afanasenkov (Dinamo, from Philadelphia): “He indicated that in America his goal-scoring instincts were killed, and he was supposed to get them back here. He didn’t; it may be that America changed Afanasenkov too much.”

Denis Arkhipov (Ak Bars, from Chicago): “His statistics may not be that beautiful, but he means a lot to the Kazan club. Only at the end of the season did they find proper linemates for him. An outstanding forechecker.”

Anton Babchuk (Avangard, from Carolina), Alexander Suglobov (CSKA, from Toronto), Darius Kasparaitis (SKA, from Rangers): “They were good, though they can’t be called stars.”

DISAPPOINTMENTS

Danil Markov (Dinamo, from Detroit): “He was considered the best NHL defenceman without a contract. And when Danil returned to Russia, it was considered a success for our managers. But soon it was clear why no one in the NHL wanted to pay him a lot of money.”

Nikita Alexeev (Ak Bars, from Chicago): “A ’secret’ winner of the Stanley Cup (but he didn’t play enough games in Tampa’s winning season to get his name on it), he returned to Russia with high hopes. They weren’t justified.”

Oleg Tverdovsky (Salavat Yulaev, from Los Angeles) and Stanislav Chistov (Salavat Yulaev, from Boston): “The Superliga defender with the most championships was actually a minus player on the team that won the regular season. And Chistov’s return to Russia was entirely strange. He wound up benched.”

I still would like to get Perezhogin back in Montreal. Man, has Chistov fallen.

I doubt Danny Markov comes back... or at least if he does, he's not making much money at all.
