Quote:
Red Wings forward Tomas Kopecky suffered a torn ACL and sprained MCL in a knee in the second period of Thursday night’s game.

General manager Ken Holland said today that Kopecky would need surgery and would miss the Stanley Cup playoffs. Holland said Kopecky would have reconstructive surgery when his knee swelling went down and was expected to miss 4-6 months.

Kopecky missed the playoffs last season with a broken collar bone.

In 77 games, Kopecky had five goals and seven assists for 12 points. He had a plus-two rating and 43 penalty minutes.

“He’s a big body,” Holland said. “We’ll miss him. Our depth is getting tested up front.”

SHIT

Kopecky has been playing well, is big, great on the forecheck and at throwing his weight around. EXACTLY the kind of depth guy we need for a deep playoff run. He missed all of last years playoffs with a broken collarbone. This friggin sucks, but I'm guessing this may actually throw Abdelkader into the lineup for his size and speed, provided we get him under contract.

Abdelkader is headed for Grand Rapids when they finish signing him. You are forgetting about the return of Holmstrom plus just uping the time for Downey and McCarty.

My mistake. Abdelkader will go toi Grand Rapids for agame tonight if he is signed in time but it looks like he will be on the Red Wings roster during the playoffs.
