The Flames never came together and they never found their heart. Led all year by Iginla and sometimes by Phaneuf. Surprising play by Owen Nolan and questionable play by Kipper. IMO no ufa needs to be signed. All positions need to be re-evaluated and ownership needs to question Sutter and Keenan. Let Huselius go play somewhere where he is appreciated.

Perhaps my expectations were too high but I don't think so. Always a fan but not so impressed with this season.

I have to agree. This is yet again a VERY disappointing end to a disappointing season.

I had to ask myself "Is it just me or do the Flames seem to get outshot by a ridiculous margin in the playoffs since the '04 run?"

In 20 games since (lost in 7 to the Mighty Ducks, lost in 6 to Detroit, lost in 7 to San Jose) the Flames have been outshot 687-468 or 34-23 per game on average.

That is fucking ugly. You CANNOT win getting out-shot that badly on a consistent basis. If you disregard the Anaheim series, the last 13 Flames playoff games have seen Iggy & Crew outshot 37-22 on average.

The team for whatever reason lost their identity the last couple seasons. In trying to add more offensive punch to a defensive minded team, the team forgot to play defense. I can't tell you how laughable both teams looked in their own end whenever the Avs played the Flames in the regular season. Attackers had WAY too much room. Dare I say it...the Flames at times looked soft.

Still a great core of Iginla, Kipper, Phaneuf, Lombardi, Langkow, and Regehr, but IMO everyone else is expendable. It's time to admit the Tanguay signing was a mistake, I don't care how many points he put up this year or last, he's not worth the cap space Sutter's wasting on him now.

And someone please tell Adrian Aucoin to crawl back on his hands and knees to Garth Snow and sign a deal in NY. Ever since he bolted the island his game and career have taken a nose dive.

Seriously, ownership needs to step in, fire Keenan, bump Sutter down behind the bench where he belongs.

I find it strange that like Lou Lamoriello, Sutter has hit gold in nearly every trade he's made (well, except for that albatross munching away at his cap room known as Alex Tanguay), but his free agent signings have been pretty bad. Apart from Roman Hamrlik, his best acquisition off the market has been...Owen Nolan?

The truth is I worry a lot about Sutter's decisions. I realize he's a sacred cow in Calgary, but follow even a sacred cow around long enough and you inevitably run into some droppings that just don't pass the smell test.

Pulling Kiprusoff is one thing. Singling him out as the reason the Flames lost the series - and make no mistake, that's exactly what Keenan did in his postgame remarks - was foolhardy.

Didn't see that, but that's classic Keenan for you.

Sutter doesn't seem to have a good understanding of the cap. He's locked up a lot of guys and it could be tough finding able-and-affordable bodies to occupy the depth positions.

The Langkow signing made no sense. He's a good player but not an adequate first line centre, which is what he's being paid to do. Fine, chucking Huselius and Tanguay will save major bucks, but how is he going to replace the lost offence?

It was this very thing in 1995 vis-a-vis Curtis Joseph (ironically) in the Blues' first-round loss to Vancouver that led to their immediate parting of ways. Was Shayne Corson worth it? Laughing

Coked-out puck bunnies in Southern Ontario and Montreal have been asking themselves that same question for years ('it' being an incurable strain of chlamydia).

Sutter says neither Keenan or Kipper are going anywhere.

Tanguay admits he sucked ass, and for the 9th NHL season in a row, needs to get back his confidence. I'm so very glad he's gone.

Adrian Aucoin says the team played "too safe" at times. Uh, sorry Augroin, the way you played D this year the Flamers were anything but "safe."
