Just announced on TSN. I'll get a link up when I find one.

Obviously, a popular move amongst this group of fans.

Nice! This should have happened last year. I doubt he'll be unemployed for long and would be a great fit in Florida. He way over-achieved when he took over a weak Sharks team but as they accumulated talent over the years he just wasn't getting the most out of the team anymore IMO.

I have no idea who they should hire, but look out for the Sharks next year!Cool

He went out in true RW fashion with this quote in the SF Chronicle:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2008/05/12/sports/s165248D22.DTL

Quote:

"I can't control guys falling down," Ron Wilson said, remembering the decisive goal in San Jose's Game 2 loss to Dallas, which was set up by Joe Pavelski's pratfalling turnover to Brad Richards. "I can't control bounces in the playoffs."

Dude never seemed to take any responsibility for anything bad that happened to the team while he was here, and liked to loudly blame the players and cry about bounces. Pavelski was great this playoffs, no need to throw him under the bus on the way out. A parting shot at Big Joe would have been a lot more appropriate.

RW is a potential front-runner for Atlanta

Would be a good fit IMO, could turn the Thrashers into a scrappy group of over-achievers. But I guess the key is what Kovalchuk thinks, they need to keep him happy before he comes up for UFA.

Minny has a better chance of keeping Gaborik than the Thrash do of keeping Kovalchuk.

RW would be a fool to take the Hotlanta job. The franchise effectively derailed in the wake of the Snyder/Heatley incident and subsequent trade, and Waddell's panic moves have left the team a complete mess.

That being said, there's a good chance of him taking the offer.

Waddell is not supposed to be GM anymore, so I'd think unless Wilson was coming in to be Coach/GM, this hire would be premature, wouldn't it? I guess Smith didn't hire Nolan in Long Island, but it still reeks of Waddell trying to save his own job yet again.
