If this is too political then just lock or delete, but I think this is a very interesting and surprising decision:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/06/25/scotus.child.rape/index.html
That said, I knew instantly which side of the 5-4 split each judge was on |

Really? You're that familiar with the 9 US Supreme court Justices?
Moreso than probably any average citizen in the US, I'll warrant
Anyways, take a minute to consider a 16 year old who has sex with his 15 year old girl friend (and is charged with stat.rape by her parents), or the MANY cases of female teachers who have sex with their high school students...
Do these people deserve to die? I think not...
I think the reason for the reversal is the vagueness, and potential for cases to be viewed under an umbrella, rather than case by case.
The way it was written, was ripe with potential for abuse by officials, and above scenarios resulting in death penalties
Obviously, someone diddling the 8 year old they're babysitting should die
But even then, there's a more poetic justice in a life sentence of getting ass-raped in prison _________________ I'm a Bruins fan - don't try to confuse me with the facts |

I'm not sure why Patrick Kennedy deserved to be considered for the death penalty. In sessions, I've heard much (MUCH) worse cases that I'm sure exists in the U.S. too. _________________ The fans represent the soul of the organization. This is their team. But were those cases in areas that allow capital punishment for rape? _________________ I'm a Bruins fan - don't try to confuse me with the facts |

Dude. He's a 6'5" 300lb man that raped his 8-year old step daughter so badly she needed emergency surgery to avoid bleeding to death.
The death penalty or life in prison is too good for this prick.

You need to pick up the Jon Stewart book on America:
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Presents America (The Book): A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction
It has everything you need to know about the current Supreme Court Justices - including, what they all look like without their robes!
It actually is very informative!
Back to the subject now.
As a parent, if some monster viciously raped Joshua to the point where he was bleeding to death from the violence of it, I know that I would do everything I could possibly do to make sure that person suffered for the rest of their life.
Death would be too kind for that type of monster. Put them in the general population in prison and then see what happens to them. |

If someone did something like that to my daughter, they wouldn't live to see trial. _________________ www.jimdalling.com |
