Running behind on this one...
Man, the upsets... it isn't the most difficult tournament to win (unless you're Federer) for nothing. Down goes Djokovic, Dadyenko, Roddick, Nalbandian, and Blake all in the first 2 rounds. That's 5 of the top 10 seeds. This will either easily play out for another Fed/Nadal final, or we're having some Cindarella runs here.
And in the ladies... Ivanovic survives Round 2... barely. Facing match point in the 2nd set, she sends a return into the tape... and it just trickles over to save the match. From there, lovely Ana gets to work and eventually advances in 3 sets.
And then today... Sharapova went down. Davenport retired early due to injury as well.
It's so early, but so much has happened. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? Anything that doesn't mention that I masturbate over her memory is probably a good idea."

Yup, that Ana match was over three hours. Three hot, sweaty, rough hours.
When she finally won she let out the girliest shriek I'd ever heard outside of a scary movie from the 70's.
It was awesome.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The women's draw is pretty much dead to me now. Go Serena.
Anyone watch the Mario Ancic/David Ferrer marathon? What an amazing match. Ancic has a killer serve. _________________ It seems like you need to be a physics professor to choose the right TV. Luckily, I am one.

This Federer/Nadal final is the stuff of legends. Looks like the fifth set could continue into tomorrow. _________________ It seems like you need to be a physics professor to choose the right TV. Luckily, I am one.

Nadal wins. One of the greatest matches ever.
Not sure if Federer is going to play much longer. He just tired out and Nadal kept coming. Wouldn't shock me if Feds took some time off after the US Open. _________________ It seems like you need to be a physics professor to choose the right TV. Luckily, I am one.

Federer ain't done. He was battling injuries earlier this year and just got himself in shape.
I'm curious about Nadal now on hard courts. He hasn't made a huge impact in either the U.S. or the Aussies yet.
But that was a brilliant final. That 4th set tiebreak... it just doesn't get any better than that. And how Roger fought off so many chances by Nadal before finally he broke through.
Criticizing Federer and saying he's done after a match like this is just premature. The only thing in doubt is his hold on the #1 spot... I can see Roger lasting a long time even after he loses that positioning. This was a marathon and tennis at it's absolute pinnacle. Anyone who didn't see this missed out on one of the greatest sporting events of all time.
I think we'll see Federer/Nadal at next year's Wimbledon Final as well. And again, like the last two years, it could go either way. Although Nadal doesn't have the mental block next year like he did the past two... when he comes close, I expect him to put it through.
Federer should've won this. He let the 2nd set slip away and just had to keep the match going from that point on. He had a break opportunity in the 5th before Nadal did... he could've buried that and won the set 6-3.
I wish Nadal was a bit more aggressive in his shotmaking. It's defence all the time for him... He can make some incredible shots from there, but I think he'd be even more dominant if he went on the offence just a bit more. That might be what's holding him back on the hard courts.
But that was, no doubt about it, the sporting event of the year. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? Anything that doesn't mention that I masturbate over her memory is probably a good idea."

I would never have guessed that Nadal was from Philadelphia. _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

Federer is the ultimate in class and sportsmanship, so it's no surprise Philly doesn't appreciate. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her.
